15 in 15 #5 ~ Haenel
'nother swordsman tonight, Haenel, the newest member of the Own. His character's based on the song Unwind by P!nk.

Name~ Haenel
Age~ 27
Currently Appearing In~ Nothing specifically as yet, just the collective group of the Own.
Orientation~ Straight
Origin~ Ni-Yana, capital of Raykin
Significant Other(s)~ He had a wife, but she died three years ago.
Background~ Brought up in a middle-class suburb, Haenel was always wanting to get into the army, but not for the usual reasons. Lately, the army's gotten the reputation that it's quite a cushy job--there have been no wars for several decades, so nothing for them to do, and yet they're quite well-paid, especially if you're good enough to be in First Company. That's the reason most people join--either that or to get in the Own--but Haenel wanted to join up to actually do some fighting. He's a very highly-strung guy, and is happiest with a blade in his hands.
However, despite his noble intentions, his father forbade him to join, instead forcing him into the merchant trade, which Haenel was definitely not happy with. One on of their journeys to Kazin, when Haenel was 18, their trading cart was attacked by Kazinian bandits. Haenel's father was killed, but Haenel was able to defend himself with his sword, which his father didn't know he had, and he was able to escape. First thing he did when he got back was to naturally sign up for army training.
When his wife died, he basically went in a downward spiral. He made out he was okay, joking and laughing and having fun, but in truth he's never gotten over it.
He basically ended up in the Own by default, being the swordsman stuck in there to replace Rau when he was killed in Kazin. They did a round robin with all the guys in First Company, and Haenel was the one to come out on top and win a place in the Own. As a result, he still hasn't quite found his place among the guys, but~ he'll get there.
Employment~ Swordsman in First Company and rider for the King's Own
Appearance~ Short and stocky with very stong shoulders. He's got shoulder-length, wavy hair that he usually has tied back in a ponytail at the nape of his neck. Hasn't been with the Own--or even the army--long enough to get any major scars. He can probably count them all on one hand.
Distinguishing Characteristics~ Not as such. He's a shortarse tho.
Quirks~ Haenel's a big~ drinker, mostly to drown his sorrows or numb fear more than socialise with the guys. He puts on a brave face and laughs and jokes, but when he's far-gone in booze, that's when the truth comes out. The guys all think it's the other way around though--that it's the alcohol that makes him depressed, but that's just when he lets his guard down.
Sin-of-Anger~ Haenel's got a long fuse, but when it runs out his anger really goes boom. He falls for the bait tho--if someone's constantly nagging him, even if he can see their soul purpose is to wind him up, he'll go for it.
Sin-of-Envy~ Not as such. He wallows in self pity, but he doesn't tend to envy people.
Sin-of-Pride~ He lets on that he thinks he's well-deserving of his position, but he's definitely not confident with the Own yet. Give him a few more years.
Sin-of-Gluttony~ Just with the beer.
Sin-of-Lust~ Another one of those things that he lets on, but doesn't go for.
Sin-of-Avarice~ Aeia no. He thinks he's got more than he deserves already, doesn't need more.
Sin-of-Sloth~ Haenel's a workaholic, but more so he can take his mind off other things.
Virtues~ He's got an incredible sense of humour and is really a very witty guy. It's just a pity he finds it so hard to be genuinely happy. He also speaks flawless Kazinian, from when he was working as a merchant with his father.
