“You’re late.”
Nimay grinned sheepishly as she looked around at the boys. The clashing of their steel daggers made her head twinge with renewed vigour.
“I know,” Nolryn answered, grinning in a considerably less sheepish way. Nimay would go so far as to say he was cocky. “I got her drunk last night, sorry.”
Nimay rubbed absently at her upper arm, itching to just grab a pair of daggers and start playing with them. That or go back to bed for the remainder of the day.
Nihqel, the weapons master in charge of teaching the intricacies of the dagger, folded his arms and stared down his nose at Nimay. It would have been threatening but for the fact she knew him; she could recognise the amused twinkle in his eye and faint hint of a smirk that played on his lips.
“You’re a cruel man, young Nolryn,” he accused, ruffling Nimay’s hair.
She cringed outwardly, holding her own hand up to massage at her pounding head.
Nihqel raised an eyebrow. “Have you not yet taken the poor girl to the healers?”
Nimay’s eyes brightened, then she glared at the older boy. 'Perfectly normal,' he had told her earlier that morning. Now she found that the healers had a cure for the effects of alcohol, and he hadn’t told her?
Now it was the prince’s turn to cringe. “With your permission, sir, I was just about to.”
The weapons master grinned broadly. “Just make sure that next time you get her drunk, it’s not on a night before dagger training.”
Nimay’s eyes widened and she shook her head as violently as it would allow without pounding too much. She didn’t plan on getting drunk again for a long while yet.
