I want Assiraz city to be like Ni-Yana, in that I know everything about it, where stuff goes on, etc and so on. Expect minifics over coming months :D In the meantime, let's start with a map )

The palace is at the top of the hill then the city falls away to the river/valley below. Black lines are walls, from back in the day when the city was small enough to fit inside them, and the green lines are rough borders. The yellow patches are the markets.

So, ye olde Assiraz was once walled in completely back when there wasn't really 'Kazin' as it exists today. I mean, yes~ they pretty much all hate each other now, but when tropical and mountain Kazin were completely separate, much warring happened until tropical Kazin won. This was all, like, 2000 years ago, so Assiraz thinks itself pretty safe now. These days, the Old City, as they call it, is basically a playground for Kazin's rich. Lots of fine dining, cocktail bars, coffee shops, bird aviaries, immaculate gardens, theatres, music halls, and markets filled with expensive and potentially exotic things. It's also where the army barracks are, and the old palace which will have a use, just gimme some time to think of one for it. The old palace is much closer to being a castle, much more heavily fortified, whereas the current one (still several hundred years old, at its core) is all white marble and open.

Nobility on the western face of the hill, close to the Old City and also sunset views, then the slums of the northern quadrant on the north-eastern edge. No paved roads so in monsoon season it's a bit shit. Shizaaqa doesn't look after her peasantry, oh no. Occasionally they get north-easterly breezes that blow the smell of the northern quadrant over the rest of the city. It's not nice =x

The commercial quadrant is pretty much proof that they're a modern city now, with their trade area being closest to the rest of the world rather than their fortifications and army barracks. This is where all the business happens in the city. They have sections for seamstresses, blacksmiths, butchers and whatever else. In Ni-Yana, people tend to have their business on the ground floor of their house, then live on the top floor, but in Assiraz people don't tend to work from home. They'll have their shop frontage in the commercial quadrant where they can show why they're better than every other blacksmith in Assiraz. It makes things easier for people wanting to spend their money :D The only place where this isn't the case is in the Old City, where, because it's old, there's not so much organisation. You'll have a coffee shop next to a theatre then someone selling birds next to them. Commercial quadrant, though, is surprisingly organised for Kazin.

And~ that's the lot for now.
