Character 100-ish 063: General Nazir
Jun. 2nd, 2014 07:16 pmNot even Raykinian! Gasp! Drawn last night and profiled today, just because I couldn't be bothered inventing his background last night. Can't really be bothered now either but such is life.

God he looks so pale after all the Raykinians.
NAME General Nazir
WHO IS THIS PERSON Retired general of the Assiraz army in Kazin, consort of the late Empress Yasina, father of Empress Shizaaqa.
GENDER Male
AGE 66
BRIEF BIO I don't freaking know. Okay. Nazir grew up in upper-class Assiraz City, eldest son of important people, and signed up young to army training. He was coached from a young age in tactics and war history and all that stuff, and the then-Empress Whoever (she's like three generations back I'm not giving her a name) started watching him closely.
Various wars and battles and things happened, during the course of which Nazir climbed the ranks and Empress Whoever earmarked him herself for the role of general. She got her current general on the case and had him properly groomed for command, in particular introducing him to Yasina and encouraging them both to get to know each other.
Initially, Nazir saw this forced relationship as a hassle and a distraction. There's no law or even tradition that says the general and the Empress have to be a couple, and he just didn't like being forced, especially when he hadn't made it yet. Yasina didn't like it either, and shacked up with some other guy pretty much just to spite her mother.
They did temporarily get together just because they'd been spending so much time together, during which time Shizaaqa was conceived, but the relationship didn't last until her birth. Cutting a long story short, because I'm sure Yasina's going to come up later, she and Nazir only had the one child together, her being Shizaaqa. Her brother and sisters all have different fathers. Because Kazin.
Eventually he did make it to general, led battles and wars, reshaped the army theory curriculum a bit and retired a decade ago when Misbah took over. He still hangs around the palace like a bad smell, but Shizaaqa and Misbah both respect him and his army reputation too much to shuffle him off.
CHARACTER Grumpy old man. Most often his advice is well-meaning, but as soon as he starts berating the younger generations just for being young, the younger generations (namely Shizaaqa and Misbah) won't hesitate to shut him up.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Nazir did a LOT as general, I'm just way too lazy to think up 20 years of military history for the guy.

God he looks so pale after all the Raykinians.

Date: 2014-06-03 09:17 am (UTC)Being as he never really wanted to be with Yasina in the first place, he doesn't really see Shizaaqa as his daughter. She calls him father but that's as far as the relationship goes. He has no trouble seeing her as a different person and rarely ever compares her to her mother, and if he ever DOES, it's usually favourably. I don't know that 'proud' is the right word, but he certainly has respect for her as his empress and likes that she listens to his military counsel. He likes where she's going.
And then he'll go off on a rant about young people today and Shizaaqa will just turn her back on him but y'know. Grumpy old man.
