It's really tempting to leave off the 'n' in his name.

CHEER UP YOU MISERABLE BASTARD. Omfg he made me mopey just drawing him. Screw you, Emon.
NAME Swordsman Emon
WHO IS THIS PERSON Current swordsman in the Raykinian King's Own, best fifteen warriors in the kingdom.
GENDER Male
AGE deceased; age 36
BRIEF BIO Emon is from upper-middle class Ni-Mythaa, across the other side of the bend in the Ra-Lin from Ni-Yana. He moved to Ni-Yana with his family when he was 14 to start army training, because he and his younger brother both wanted to sign up after watching the King's Own ride through town on their missions. So Emon got a strong start early, but then things started going downhill a bit. He married a woman who died of a thrai bite the year after he graduated into First Company. He then started dating a woman who turned out to be a prostitute, and who was only after him because she was counting on him getting in the Own (idk, escaping death threats, wanting to get out of her job, drug money, whatever). When Emon faced his first Own challenge at 25, his complete lack of self confidence got in the way and he failed pretty badly at every test, so she left him.
NEXT GIRLFRIEND desperately wanted to move to the beach. When Emon turned 27 and then DID manage to win the Own challenge, she saw this as betrayal. She was always asking him if he loved his job more than being with her at the beach. Emon turned it back on her, asking if she'd rather live on the beach than be with him, and so she left. So one left because he didn't get in; the next left because he did. Suckage.
AMAZINGLY Emon lived through his first mission. And his second. And he pretty much kept on doing so, too, despite his own pessimism. It was on the return leg of his third mission, when he was 29, when he met Orylia in Ni-Mythaa (the cutie with dimples I did a while back, a successful restaurateur) and, probably because they only ever see each other for short bursts at a time, their relationship has lasted the distance. Neither has been willing to give up their job and move cities for the other yet, though, but Emon looks most likely.
Emon's eleventh mission was somewhat less successful. This was the mission when General Rau was killed, and Emon himself lost his left little finger, throwing his hand up to defend himself against an arrow. Suckage again. Thirteenth mission--lol 13 I swear to all things shiny I didn't plan that--went even worse for Emon. This mission is the one that takes place in Tarnish, annnnd it's where Emon carks it. He got shot by a poisoned arrow and didn't make it to the healing house in time for them to save him. So yeah. Sucks to be Emon.
CHARACTER Woobie, wet blanket, complete pessimist, which has been a self-fulfilling prophecy for most of Emon's life. He's convinced he'll fail at something, and hence he does. This is especially obvious to any woman he dates, except Orylia for some reason (we suspect, again, because she only ever sees him for a week or two at a time). When something should be fun and exciting, Emon will be thinking about all the things that could go wrong. He finds it hard to trust anyone, the exception being that he trusts the Own boys to do their jobs, but he doesn't fully trust them as people. Complete workaholic, and probably spends more time in the barracks than outside. In his mind, one night off leads to the next day off, then the next night, until going to work becomes a chore rather than a habit.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Emon is sceptical of magic. He doesn't like how it can override his own sense and knowledge, but he tries to be accepting of Nimay's new methods.
Always very clean cut, because he doesn't want his hair getting in the way while swordfighting.
Prior to the loss of his finger, Emon was the second-best swordsman in the Own, though you wouldn't have known it talking to him. Since then he's lost a lot of the power in his swing, because even though it's fully healed he's still aware of it and deliberately puts less pressure on it than he used to.
Emon is one of the better cooks in the Own, especially since meeting Orylia. He doesn't do so with any great finesse, but it's always tasty and filling.
I really don't like Emon. I swear I looked objectively at all the Own riders when deciding who to kill off and he just fitted the bill the best.
