FINALLY last of the weapons masters. All the others came fairly close together.

NAME Sword Master Laeron
WHO IS THIS PERSON Current sword master for the Raykinian army trainees, and former rider for the King's Own
GENDER Male
AGE 45
BRIEF BIO Laeron grew up in high-class Ni-Yana and started army training early at 14, because he really really wanted to and managed to convince the then-general that he could handle it. Sure enough, he graduated seven years later into First Company and made it into the Own three years later at 24.
Laeron was with the Own for eight years, during which he went on the royal meet and greet with King Mithé and the 7-year-old Prince Nolryn. He got bored halfway through, and wondered why the Own needed to be there once they'd left Kazin, but whatever. He got to see the world and looks back on it happily now.
The next year, the mission he went on he broke his knee, and while it healed fine, he was never quite so confident on it as he used to be. Later that year, Rumal took up the Own challenge and beat Laeron in the most epic Own challenge ever. He also beat one of the other guys, so the other guy and Laeron had a playoff to see who stayed. Laeron lost, so at 32 his Own career was over.
Six months later, his wife (whoever she is) told him he was driving her crazy with his inactivity, so he became the new sword master at the palace, and there he remains today.
CHARACTER Laeron takes no shit and gives no fucks. He likes to show he has a cool head and an emotionless façade, however the right amount of niggling and pestering can easily crack his cool demeanour to show quite a fierce tempter. He has no patience for people being deliberately irritating to him, especially students in his classes.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Laeron looks forward to training the kid up who eventually beats Rumal. He'll view that as his revenge taken. He still hopes Nimay will do it some time.
So far, Nimay is Laeron's crowning glory. Not too many ladies have ever made it into the Own, you can probably count the swordies who've done it on one hand, and Nimay's the youngest ever recruit.
Laeron sees swordsmanship as an art form, and wants his and his students' actions to be as beautiful as they are effective.
Laeron's sword is dragon-shaped.
