15 in 15 #11 ~ Nolryn
Feb. 26th, 2005 11:49 pmAnother one Idon't have to make up anything on the spot for, Good ol' Nol. Again, not based on a song at all, but You Won't be Mine by Matchbox 20 and Tubthumping by ChumbaWumba fit him pretty damn well =3

Name~ Crown Prince Nolryn of Raykin, or Nol to those who know him well enough, Highness to those who don't.
Age~ 23
Currently Appearing In~ Damn near everything in the Yrae Chronicles
Orientation~ Straight
Origin~ Ni-Yana, capital of Raykin
Significant Other(s)~ He'd like to say Nimay, but that'd be lying. He's still a bachelor.
Background~ This bit's tedious whether I know the stuff already or make it up on the spot. Fleh. Anyway, his mother, Queen Alurié, died giving birth to him, so he obviously never knew her, and as a result of that he never ended up with any siblings, hence he's the crown prince, much to his father's annoyance. He went on his first trip with the Own when he was seven, which was just having a meet-and-greet with the royals of the other three kingdoms. The then-riders of the Own still consider that to be the lowest point in their careers =3; When he was in Kazin on that trip, he rode his first horsie before being promptly thrown off, resulting in a broken arm. Bugga.
Also on that trip, the archers (Naraan in particular. I think. Pretty sure that's his name) taught him how to use a bow, and Naraan helped him some more when they got back to the palace, then finally convinced Mithé that he should start training earlier for the army, so in he went at age 11. The year after he passed his final exams, he got into the Own, so good judgement on Naraan's part there. Go Naraan.
And then~ stuff with 'may--he proposed, she turned him down, now he reckons she hates him, it gets complicated and spoilerific, so I'm going to shut up now =3
Employment~ Crown Prince of Raykin, First Company archer, rider for the King's Own and~ a little something else on the side that's also spoilerific =3
Appearance~ He's a sessy beast =3 Not so much when I draw him, but he is~ in my head, so that's enough for me =3 Anyway, more practically speaking, he's tall for a Raykinian, broad, slightly sloping shoulders and well-toned and muscled arms. I've always loved his arms. Messy, almost-shoulder-length hair parted over his right eye and held back out of his eyes with a red bandanna when he's in battle attire. He's also got gorgeous eyes, another thing I kinda fail with when drawing him. They are~ tho, I promise. They're darker than the average Raykinian's. And, of course, scars here there and everywhere. Standard Own stuff.
Distinguishing Characteristics~ He's tall, that's about it. He doesn't tend to get recognised unless he's somehwere he goes often (like the Golden Thrai) or if he's wearing something with the royal insignia on it.
Quirks~ He fires imaginary arrows at the backs of people he doesn't like. He also has a thing about elephants. He rea~lly wants an elephant. One of the most unreligeous people in the kingdom, complete athiest, which in Raykin is very much a quirk. He does all the Winter Solstice stuff just to keep up appearances, but he'd really rather not trek halfway across the kingdom to kiss a rock and throw a leaf in the river.
Sin-of-Anger~ Generally more annoyance than outright anger. If he does~ get angry tho (usually brought on by peasants or loss of beer for whatever reason), you don't want to be in his path, otherwise he'll release his princely wrath on you. Unlike most Raykinians, he's not particularly good at taking jokes made at his expense, especially when made by someone below him. One of the other guys in the Own he might tollerate, depending on who it is, but anyone else? Nuh.
Sin-of-Envy~ Oh yeah, much~ envy for all the army Generals. He wants to be a General himself, but because he's going to end up being the king sooner or later, he'll never be allowed to. For the last 500 years or so, Raykin's had a rule that doesn't let the monarch be a General as well--it's happened before, and it hasn't been a pretty sight. Doesn't stop Nol from wanting to be General, but he's (thankfully) smart enough to know that Raykin wouldn't take too kindly to a General-king.
Sin-of-Pride~ I'm getting an image springing to mind of the "Great 'Ders' of History" from Full Frontal =3 Nol's about the biggest show-off in the Own, with the possible exception of Melraan. I think the two contest to see who can show off the most. It's really quite disgusting =3;;
Sin-of-Gluttony~ Not as much as the rest of the kingdom would like to think about the royals. They eat well, obviously, but it's not like they gorge every night on the finest imports from Kazin and Llayad. Beer is another matter entirely =3;
Sin-of-Lust~ Quite a bit of that one, too, moreso since 'may turned him down.
Sin-of-Avarice~ Depends on what it's over. He doesn't like to shout too much at the 'Thrai, since there's always someone who's going to point out that it's the treasury's money he's spending anyway, not technically his own.
Sin-of-Sloth~ He hates getting up early, but he will if he has to. In regards to the whole prince thing, he's not lazy so much as stubborn. He pretty much only listens to what he wants to hear.
Virtues~ He's a lovely boi, is Nol =3 So long as you don't criticise his questionable ruling ideas or threaten his beer supply in any way, he's a very amiable character. Fun guy to talk to, enthusiastic about whatever he gets into... he's just a lovely boi =3
Also~ I have no idea where to put this, so I'll stick it here for no apparent reason. He's incredibly gullible, which is probably not the best quality in a ruler, but there you have it.
