Nimay was not the kind of person to forgive easily. She bore grudges. This particular grudge had been lasting the better part of six years. Six years ago, nearing the end of her first year of army training, Ahnil had told her something she wished she could forget.
"The only reason you're here is because of the stone."
Most of the other boys had been thinking it already, even Nimay herself, but to have it actually be spoken to her in such clear, blunt words... it had hurt. Other boys took up the idea, and once she had grown strong enough to be able to beat them with her own blade skills, they accused her of using magic in order to win.
For years they used the excuse, and whether or not they believed it themselves, the accusations made Nimay begin to believe that what they said was true.
Not everyone was against her. There were a select few, including the prince himself, who believed otherwise, though Nimay suspected that a number of them only 'believed' this to be in Nolryn's good graces.
The rivalry had eventually died down when they realised that Nimay could indeed weild a blade, with or without magic, but there were still those who resented her, Ahnil included.
Sometimes, she wished Ahnil would apologise, just so she could inform him that no, she did not forgive him. But after so long in waiting, she knew that day would never come.
