Nimay jumped and blinked as her food splattered up from her spoon just as she was about to put it in her mouth. She closed her mouth and looked down at the small pebble that now lay in her spoon, then flashed her eyes up at the snickering blade archers on the other side of the campfire.

‘That was your warning look, boys,’ Rau told the two purple shirts.

Kaen folded his arms and cast a challenging look back across the fire. ‘Or what?’

‘She’ll turn you into a frog.’

The blade archers snorted and shook their heads in amusement, but there was just a hint of wariness in their faces as Nimay displayed her yrae stone. She turned her amused grin into a dangerous one, and sent a few bright blue sparks up from her fingertips for effect.

‘Could you seriously?’ Melraan asked casually, but Nimay could hear the hidden eagerness in his voice.

Nimay shook her head and sighed reluctantly. She scooped her spoon back into her stew, but this time she was able to catch the blade archer’s flying stone before it hit. She watched the two purple shirts carefully as the stone hovered in mid flight between her and them.

‘It was him!’ Geryn said finally.

Kaen’s eyes narrowed as he snapped his head around to his fellow blade archer. ‘Oh you little bastard.’

Nimay gave her dangerously amused grin and let the pebble drop to earth, well aware that the rest of the Own had stopped eating to watch the rather interesting confrontation. She was also well aware that they were all silently egging her on, but she didn’t take her eyes from Kaen’s challenging glare.

The blade archer started back as his bowl suddenly rose out of his lap. He instinctively reached out to grab it, but Nimay kept it from his grasp. The bowl circled around him once, then rose to a few feet above his head.

Kaen’s expression changed to one of mild horror for a second, then he turned a look of rage on Nimay, so deep and pure that she had to struggle not to laugh. There was nothing he could do about it. He knew it, Nimay knew it, and the rest of the Own knew it.

Even Nol and a few of the others who had initially been wary of Nimay’s yrae stone were looking on with malicious grins on their faces; the rest of the guys were laughing and making warning noises at the hapless blade archer.

‘Go on, ‘may,’ Melraan said evilly, ‘Drop it.’

‘You’ll be the main target for the rest of the mission if you do,’ Kaen warned darkly, but Nimay just calmly raised an eyebrow at him. Out here, where there was nobody to see her magic, his accuracy had nothing on her.

She shook her head and held up two fingers, then went back to her meal. That bowl was going to stay there until she had finished. After that, who knew?

Move over, Damocles! *cackles* That's precious. I love May.

I feel dumb, though ... can't she use her magic within the city limits?

Nyaa! I love this one! >D Love it! It's awsome! The banter between them but the underlying serious conflict between Nim' and Kaen. <3 Wooooooo ~
