Gimped from the Talechasing community, cos that's what it's for =D Mini survey/character sketch thing. I thought I'd try it with an easy one first, someone I know inside out already, then test it out with those who still need work, like Mithé and Shizaaqa.
So, here we go! What is Nolryn's attitude towards ...
1. life in general?
Life is fun. There are duties, of course, things he has to do whether he likes them or not, but for the most part, they're just little pockets of annoyance. The sooner he can get them over and done with, the sooner he can get back to the more fun aspects.
2. death?
Death is scary, not something he likes to think about often, but being an Own rider, it's obviously come up more often than it would have if he hadn't signed up. It scares him mostly because of what it does to the people who are still alive. He takes his role as the only remaining heir to the Raykinian throne very seriously, and he will back off in an Own battle if he thinks the odds are stacked against him. Obviously he'll be chastised for this later on by the rest of the guys, not least of all the other three archers, but he'd prefer to live, thankyouverymuch.
3. friends?
Infinitely important above all else. Friends make life more enjoyable, and he believes that while he's having fun, he's got a much better chance of doing the job well, be it on horseback or on the throne.
4. family?
Family has always been a bit of a warped concept for the Raykinian royals. He does have father-son moments with Mithé, but more often than not, they're simply king and crown prince. Whenever he hears anyone else talking about their parents, he always feels slightly alienated, and it's just plain weird hearing other people saying 'father' or 'papa'. His own father has always been Majesty.
5. love and marriage?
Like so many things that are an inevitable part of a crown prince's life, marriage is a duty. However, like so many duties, it can be improved and made far more successful with friendship. For his situation, at least, he doesn't see love as an essential part of marriage, but he wants to be friends with his queen at the very least.
6. children?
No. Just... no. He'll cross that bridge when he comes to it. For the moment though? ...No.
7. their fellow man?
A complete stranger is a potential friend until they prove otherwise. There are a few prerequisites to being able to talk with him in the first place, however. Southerners and peasants in general, he has a very low opinion of, extending in some part from knowing Rumal. If Rumal could come up from south of the Main Road to be one of the highest-paid guys in Raykin, then there's no reason the rest of the Southerners can't do the same.
If anyone wishes to strike up a conversation with him purely because he's royalty and/or in the Own, it depends on his mood (and indeed, the amount of alcohol in his system) as to whether he'll humour them or not. He's not an 'off with his head' kind of guy by any means. If someone comes to him, even if he's having a relaxing beer at the 'Thrai, with a major problem? He'll try to sort it out. Unless they're a Southerner, but they wouldn't get into the 'Thrai too easily anyway, so he's safe there X3
8. the law?
The law is weird. There are some aspects of it he'd like to change when he's in a position to do so, some bits that are too lax for his liking or too harsh. He agrees with it for the most part, but he's not at all looking forward to sentencing people to death.
9. duty?
He knows what his role is in Raykin, and while he'll complain a bit about certain duties, he's largely accepted it and just gets it over and done with as soon as possible. Often this means the task isn't completed to the best of his ability, however, and it will come back to bite him in the arse later on. He definitely works better with other people around to make the task more enjoyble, so he can see a point in doing what he's doing.
10. rulers/leaders?
He doesn't really have an opinion on rulers as a whole, because he knows all the royals personally already. He has strong opinions on the various systems of leadership around Tsyllaes, but when it comes to the leaders themselves, he sees them all as individuals.
11. the truth?
Nol's a bit gullible, to be perfectly honest. He's very, very careful around politicians and is always sceptical as to whether they're telling the truth or not, but he's still not all that good at picking apart rhetoric. And of course, take him out of the official arena and he lets his guard down completely; the other Own riders are always teasing him and seeing how much he'll believe.
When it's coming from Nol's mouth tho, you can be reasonably confident he's telling the truth, mostly because he's a baaaaad lier XD
12. violence?
He'll try to avoid it, but if the need calls for it, he won't hesitate to brandish his daggers. This can be from anything as small as a brawl at the pub to an Own mission.
13. arguments?
He hates them, mostly because he usually ends up losing, poor thing. Most arguements he has are with Mithé, so there's obviously something of an inevitability about their outcome. He tries though, and when he's absolutely dead set certain about his position and he knows he's right, he can sure as hell weave words with the best of them. He doesn't get a lot of satisfaction out of winning an arguement, even on the odd occasion that Mithé concedes his point, because he feel they should have just seen it in the first place.
14. injustice?
Double standards liek woah! He wants to see something done about the crime situation, but mention the southern districts to him and he'll roll his eyes.
15. promises?
Nol is very, very strong about his promises, and he won't make any he knows he can't keep, either politically or personally. Generally, 'I'll try my best' or 'I'll see what I can do' is the most concrete you'll get out of him.
16. failure?
Ooh~ that's an icky topic. So much seems to ultimately get blamed on him that he's just about grown used to Mithé's lectures. He does try, but there's obviously something that's just not clicking in his mind.
17. forgiveness?
So long as he gets an apology (preferably in the form of a Liquid Sunset) he'll forgive quite easily, but he'll keep it in the back of his mind as ammunition later on if needs be. If it's a particularly big thing though, he'll hold a grudge there for a looooong time.
18. adventure?
Well, obviously. He's in the Own, is he not? He's hardly in it for the money X) He may hate the cold and wet of Kazin, and the aches and pains of near-constant riding and/or fighting, but ultimately he loves it. It's why he doesn't really know what he'll do once he's king. Can he ride with his own Own? oO
19. learning?
As long as it's not structured, he loves it. His language lessons tend to just be having a conversation with the teacher in their language, about whatever topic the teacher feels is necessary. He'll read a book about the Second Great Drought on his own, but as soon as a teacher tells him he has to read it and write an essay on where the rulers of the time went wrong, he'll find something better to do. He loves learning as long as it's of his own accord. Having it structured makes him feel too much like he's a little kid being ordered around, not crown prince of Raykin.
20. new experiences?
Again, that comes with being an Own rider. He loves new experiences until they get old, then he'll want something new again. He can't stay in the same spot for long, and starts getting itchy feet a month after returning from a mission. He'll try anything once =3
