Once again, handy dandy family tree because it is both handy and dandy.
Name~ Qowen
Age~ 46
Currently Appearing In~ Silent Harmony, not appeared in the current rewrite as yet, and didn't have a name in the first. Or character. He was the collective 'elders'.
Orientation~ Straight
Origin~ Heart of the mallee.
Significant Other(s)~ Laer (children: Weya, Falak and Alir)
Background~ Qowen and Laer left their family group of their own accord when the group grew too big to support itself. Standard practice, you do what you can to survive. The two of them with their three kid (all early-mid teenagers at the time) wandered around for a year and built up some kickarse teamwork together, hunting especially. Qowen realised they couldn't continue to live like this--it was a HELL of a lot more work than when they were in the family group--so they joined up with another small, struggling group and pretty much took it over, got them back on their feet and made a life for themselves.
Obviously it hasn't exactly been easy since then. They've had fights with other family groups, all, of course, over ownership of an oasis. Qowen has never been happy with instigating fights himself, preferring to compromise so that both groups around an oasis can drink from it until it dries up, but he's not strong-voiced enough to overcome those of the other two elders.
Employment~ Family elder, expert tracker and hunter, keeper of the peace
Appearance~ That picture there =D Yeah. None of these people are meant to be lookers. As with Laer, add on at least a decade to get an idea of how old he looks, scratchy beard, always squinting because of the sun, but not as angry as Laer. Bit more kindness in his features.
Distinguishing Characteristics~ I could say his nose, but you haven't seen the other guys in this desert tribe yet. Nothing outstanding about Qowen beyond standard desert characteristics--a good deal taller than Riverfolk, sharp features, long nose, shade darker skin.
Quirks~ Qowen hates confrontation. It's a waste of energy when energy has to be conserved so much, moreso as he gets older. If he senses an unavoidable argument, whether the other party is his equal or lower rank than him, he'll instantly back down. Some of the group members look at this as an admirable trait, keeping the peace amongst them, others (especially Laer and Gunai, the other elder) see him as a pushover.
Sin-of-Anger~ It takes a lot to get Qowen angry, and if he feels his temper starting to boil, he'll just take a deep breath and walk away.
Sin-of-Envy~ He does occasionally envy the other elders for being such strong leaders when he's comparatively weak, but he knows he has his place, and knows others look up to him for different qualities.
Sin-of-Pride~ He's quietly proud of his hunting skills, and how he's been passing the knowledge onto the others in the group. Very proud of the second generation of his family group, too.
Sin-of-Gluttony~ I really should just remove this option from the profile. Raykinians in general aren't gluttonous, let alone out in the middle of nowhere where they have NOTHING.
Sin-of-Lust~ Used to be, not so much anymore now that he's got kids and grandkids to look after.
Sin-of-Avarice~ Again, there's really not a lot to own out there to start with.
Sin-of-Sloth~ He feels as though he is sometimes, just because he can't take charge as confidently as the other elders, so he makes up for this by being the most physically active of the three of them, hunting and teaching the second generation.
Virtues~ Qowen is patient to a fault, because he sees confrontation as a waste of energy. He wants to keep the group as strong and happy together as possible, because in the end, that's what keeps them all alive. Also brilliant at tracking/hunting and picking another's strengths.
