Working on this, specifically Shizaaqa, and part of that is figuring out which bits of Kazin are loyal to her and which aren't. Kazin is complicated .-.

Green-tinted ones are loyal to Shizaaqa (or at least try to be) and the red ones not so much. They still pay taxes to her, because they don't want to have two or three of Shizaaqa's loyal armies on their doorstep.

Now when I say the state is or isn't loyal to her, I mean the state's queen, as distinct from its people and its army. The army's loyalty to Shizaaqa is represented by the starry flower thing and... crap this is getting confusing now. The starry flower thing represents the army itself, as opposed to the leaders of it (General, Commanders and... some rank below them. Is Lieutenant below Commander? I have no idea. ANYWAY) and um. Yeah. I should have a separate marker for the army leaders. Nice work, self.

TAKE SILRONA because I know what the crap's going on there. Queen Shala is Shizaaqa's sister, and while Shizaaqa does go hard on her, Shala is still loyal to her. She just kinda fails at making money and barely gets enough into the treasury each year/month/whatever to pay the taxes back to Assiraz, let alone her own army. As a result, the army is not~ happy with her at all. But! The army leaders and at least the top ranks (the ones on black horses) get paid enough to keep the rest of the army from staging a coup. Instead, they form bandit groups and rob merchant caravans to make the money they think they should be paid.

In Assiraz, the army was formerly led by Shizaaqa's father, who was and still is highly respected by empress and army alike. At the time, Shizaaqa's brother and partner were Commanders under him, and when he retired, Shizaaqa's partner took over the position. With the empress so physically closeby, it's not too hard for her to make certain that the army's leadership group is loyal to her. The army itself just sees this as favouritism, and it doesn't help that she pays the leadership group far more than any queen around the empire does. Shizaaqa and General Misbah keep them busy and well-paid enough that they don't seriously oppose her.

That's largely the story with the other red/green combinations around the empire. If there is conflict between Queen and General, it~ won't last long. Either the General will get anything between sacked and killed, depending on the queen and how seriously he was offending her, or~ the General will stage a military coup.

Clearly then, this map is subject to change. And you wonder why they can't get the organisation together to just send all the armies off to invade Raykin.
