“Come on, you’ve only got another two months to ask.”
The young Mithé shifted uneasily in his chair, glancing nervously through the window at the palace, then back down into the dregs of his beer. “What if she says no?” he asked helplessly.
The spearman-in-training snorted. “Number one: She has no reason to say no. Number two: You can’t tell me you haven’t seen the hints she’s been dropping to you. Number three: If there is the slightest, most remote possibility that she says no, then I’ll treat you to the Golden Thrai.”
Mithé’s eyes widened and he blinked at his younger friend. “That’s the most expensive tavern in Ni-Yana,” he pointed out.
Renali nodded.
“The cheapest drink they sell will cost you three silvers.”
A shrug. “Like I say, if you wait too much longer, she’ll be the one proposing to you.” The young man drained his glass and folded his arms on the table. “Think about it: she says yes, you’re prince of Raykin, and you’ll be able to go to the ‘Thrai every night.”
Mithé shook his head. “I think there’s more to it than that.”
“Aeia, Mithé, you’re too reasonable.” He grinned abruptly. “Can’t wait to have you as king.”
Mithé blinked again, then took a deep breath. “Fine, I’ll ask her,” he said finally, “But you owe me something from the ‘Thrai, whether she agrees or no.”
Renali shrugged again. “Think you could put me in the Own when you get there?”

Date: 2004-09-22 11:43 am (UTC)Nah, I don't hate it for not being YanxNol, since neither of them are involved in any way, shape, or form.
No, I see Yan being more of an extracurricular activity to Mithé, after he's married—an affair, you see >D
