Disclaimer~ I dunno who she is, but she's mine.
Notes~ 15 minute fic, word 45. How the hell did a Kazinian girl survive in Ni-Yana for seven years? Hell knows, cos I sure don't =D Don't go into Ni-Yana if you've got brown hair and green eyes. They won't believe you if you tell them you're not Kazinian ^^;
~ ~ ~
Kusaa had been wandering the streets of Ni-Yana since lunch time, and the sun was now beginning to turn the city from red to golden. Her feet and legs were in agony, but that paled in comparison to the stabbing pain in her wrist. Every corner she turned, she longed to recognise something, or maybe see the welcoming green plant that marked Raykin’s healing houses.
Her mother had warned her against wandering too far from home, but Kusaa had been confident she wouldn’t get lost. She’d been living in Ni-Yana for seven of her fourteen years, she knew her way around. If only her mother had warned her of the real reason why she shouldn’t leave.
She had somehow ended up in a part of the city she didn’t recognise. She wasn’t a shy girl, and had confidently asked a group of children a few years younger than herself for directions back to the docks. They had mocked her bright green eyes and mousey brown hair, not to mention her ‘snaky’ accent, but had nevertheless pointed towards the docks.
Kusaa had thanked them and headed in the direction they had pointed, but now she found herself lost in the southern part of Ni-Yana. Even Raykinians knew this part of the city to be dangerous, but for a young Kazinian girl, it was almost suicidal. She knew she was lucky to be out of there with just a broken wrist. But still she had no idea where home was.
Tears threatened to well in the girl’s eyes, and she angrily blinked them away as she came to another intersection. She swung her head in one direction, hoping against everything to see a green, leafy pot plant, but seeing nothing. In the other direction she saw the imposing walls of the palace looming up above the red-gold city.
There was no hesitation in Kusaa’s mind. She had heard of the miracle cures the palace’s healing house offered. Nursing her wrist gntly and bighting her lip against the pain, she ran down the street to the palace wall, then followed it along to the massive gates.
“Excuse me,” she called up to the guards on the top of the gate, “I… got lost south of the Main Road… and broke my wrist.”
She bit her lip nervously as the two guards exchanged glances, silently debating whether they should allow the Kazinian girl to enter the royal palace. One guard finally shrugged and began winching the gate open enough to let Kusaa through.
“Healing house is to your left,” the guard instructed blandly.
Having received the wrong directions from a number of Raykinians that day, Kusaa was tempted to look elsewhere for the healing house, but true to the guard’s word, the white-painted dome lay invitingly to Kusaa’s left.
The girl sighed with relief, then made her way over to the welcoming building.
