Winks have always been an issue for me, so here's Orchid winking.
NAME Kushta, alias 'Orchid'
WHO IS THIS PERSON One of the current Bouquet, personal assassination squad of the Kazinian empress. Orchid is the Syzran connection.
GENDER Female
AGE Early 20s (she doesn't know, exactly)
BRIEF BIO Kushta grew up on the streets of a big city with her father and little sister, where she learnt nothing of morals and everything about saving her own skin. Her mother died giving birth to what would have been a brother, but on the streets, neither of them made it. Her father, when he realised she was growing up a bit nuts, tried to teach her some morals, but Kushta could only think of people in terms of useful, benign, useless or dangerous. After one particularly vitriolic argument, where her father caught Kushta eating the food she had stolen instead of sharing it with her sister, she stabbed him in the throat. She was very young at the time, no more than ten. Her family never kept track of birthdays or years, so that's a rough guess.
Anyway. Kushta felt nothing. She ditched her sister, because she fell into the 'benign' category and couldn't be bothered killing her, and continued to live her life on the streets, killing when people got dangerous or boring, using them when they were useful. Authorities heard of her but could never catch her, because they were playing by the rules and she just killed them. Eventually, things got too hot for Kushta and she skipped town, where the same thing started happening again. This time, however, she got caught, somewhere in her late teens.
The palace in Assiraz had a pretty big impact on Kushta. She'd never seen such opulance, so when Shizaaqa made her promise to only kill the people she was told to kill, in exchange for keeping the authorities off her back, Kushta happily took up the offer. She was given the codename Orchid and sent to Syzra to be Shizaaqa's assassin, with her cover to be living in the Syzran palace as one of the royals' handmaidens. She made a game of hiding, pretending she was just a quirky girl with a morbid sense of humour, and seeing how many people she could trick. She'd just started getting bored of this game when Yan came along and tempted her with killing the empress. Orchid decided this would be much more fun, and greedily joined the team.
CHARACTER Genuine psychopath. Orchid kills for fun, pure and simple. She's generally fun and chirpy, but what might in a normal person be an idle threat (eg 'I'll kill you if you take that last chocolate') is pretty genuine with her. She's flighty, treating people like toys she quickly gets bored of. If they then keep irritating her rather than just going away, she kills them.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Orchid was the one Nimay and the Own saw on the palace walls in Syzra.
She's also the one who took Sahid hostage for their eventual takeover bid of Assiraz. She found that a LOT of fun.
