Character 100-ish 069: Inel

Second of the character groups done! Very small group of two, the palumen of the Own, but it counts. MILESTONES.
It took me TWO HOURS to find a ref photo with an underbite and this was the best I could find. He's probably halfway through saying something =/
NAME Inel
WHO IS THIS PERSON Paluman in the current Raykinian King's Own, the best fifteen warriors in the kingdom. The palu is a long wooden staff with a curved blade at each end.
GENDER Male
AGE 35
BRIEF BIO Born and raised in Ni-Yana's high class 30th district, Inel was the subject of a loooot of pressure as a kid. His father forced him into army training at fifteen, specifically to train with the sword. Inel learned early on in life that it was easier to just submit to his father's orders rather than try to fight him. Besides, he found he kind of liked army training, and not perhaps for the reasons you expect. He rarely ever thought of it as taking out his pent-up frustration, but he did like the opportunity for respite from his father.
And then, in third year of training, he discovered the palu, which was more than just a distraction, this was properly fun. In the same year, he also met Fina, a lovely lass in the massage rooms at the palace. And then married her two years later. Cos. I just told you she's lovely. This thing is supposed to be brief and he hasn't even graduated yet.
So then he graduated into Fourth Company with the swordies, which is still pretty damn good, but frankly the palu was where both his enjoyment and his talent lay. It took him a year to work up the courage, but with Fina's support, Inel went against his father's wishes for like the first time ever and switched weapons halfway through training and took the palu as his weapon of choice and made it into First Company within the year. His father still wasn't happy and thought he should have kept up with the sword but Inel just kept on putting up with him and practised with his palu.
The year after that, at 24 now, Inel and Fina had twin sons, Hagi and Qiren, who you've met earlier on in this challenge. It was another four years until he took up the Own challenge and made it into the King's Own at 28. Only then did his father decide he was proud of him, to which Inel just shrugs it off and says yeah, I knew you were all the time anyway. Cos he's like that.
CHARACTER Very easy-going and agreeable. He doesn't like to argue if it's easy enough for him to comply. He knew his father was only pressuring him to be a First Company swordie because he cared for him, and the sword has always been the most respected--and hence highly-paid--section of the army. Inel does occasionally wish the palu had the glamour of the sword, but mostly he's just happy to be occasionally recognised, rather than be swamped like the swordies are. Inel is a great listener, and easily the best to go to for advice among the Own. He thinks seriously about whatever he's been asked before giving his answer.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Inel is the 'weatherman' of the Own. He's broken his left leg twice on missions, and it hurts whenever it's going to rain. Useful in Raykin but a constant dull ache in Kazin. He walks with a very slight limp these days because of it.
Nobody yet has been able to take advantage of the limp in battles of palu. Sucked in, bitches.
Inel is very much into all the stories of religion and mythology, from the Raykinian goddesses and desert people's stories to the gods of Kazin and the Llayan Pantheon. He's become particularly interested since the twins showed up with yrae feathers and one of those myths has been proven true. Makes him wonder about the others.
Inel still keeps up with his sword practice, for his father's sake to keep him happy. The other swordies in the Own rate him as about Third Company but he never would have been Own material with it.
He ties his hair back when he's fighting.
Palus are easily the most beautiful of weapons, the way they spin around and keep constant motion with them. It also gives them frigging massive shoulders.
Inel only has an underbite because the first time I drew him I accidentally inked his jaw a bit wrong. So I decided to make it part of his character design instead.
