BRIEF BIO Aelen grew up as the daughter of a successful pub owner in Ni-Yana. Her father and Melraan's father have been mates since before the pub opened, so she and Melraan have grown up together. They've been besties since before they can remember. She started working in the pub at 13 as a bar bitch, just as Melraan started army training. They each experimented with having a boyfriend/girlfriend as they were in their teens, but in the end they realised they'd never find anyone whose company they enjoyed more than each other's, so when Melraan was 20 and Aelen 22, they married. Cos. Why not? That was literally their reasoning. They're not even sure these days if one of them actually proposed or whether they just sorta did it. Whatever. They work so well together.
Aelen quit working as soon as Melraan graduated into First Company so she could be a 'house wife' for want of a better word. They've had a daughter together, Rair, who's completely taken after both of them.

CHARACTER She's fabulous. She knows it, and she knows you're fabulous too, even if you don't. Having grown up as the daughter of a successful pub owner, Aelen is very much a party girl. She's a complete show-off, not at all afraid to spend Melraan's money on clothes and jewellery. She'll also happily threaten anyone with her husband if she feels the need. She gives off an air of being a lazy girl good for nothing but partying, but Aelen has a strict rule about not hiring house help. She loves cooking and looking after Rair, and keeping the house clean is something to keep her grounded.

POINTS OF INTEREST

Aelen has as many turn-down lines as men have pick-ups, and enjoys going to pubs with her girlfriends to tally up how many guys try to pick her up. Then she'll go home and tell Melraan all about it.

She likes to mock the Own, especially Melraan, at any chance she gets, often likening their missions to a delightful romp in the garden patch. It's a mocking because she loves, though—she loves to watch them train and insists on being at the palace for an Own challenge, whether Melraan's a part of it or not. He tries to keep the blade archers' challenges hidden from her, but it doesn't work.

Melraan is still her bestie, but when he's not around it's totally her and Lolana (Ulkar's wife). They love to go and paint the town red(der than it already is.)

Aelen gave Melraan the habit of emphasising the second syllable of people's names, and in turn she's picked up his dry, almost black humour. They share a lot in common, and can often take a joke further than it should really go and still both find it funny. They have an endless supply of inside jokes.
