Character 100-ish 121: Queen Si
Sep. 5th, 2014 09:07 pmLania wasn't the last of the children; I forgot about the two desert kids yet to come. Si is also not the last of the Tsaythis, though when those I've done have been Thiras and daughter, former King Weset, Queen Tusa and now former Queen Si, it's not hard to see who's left. I need more Tsaythis.

Two-letter names don't really suit this format I have going. Also I think this is more like the skin colour I'm going for with Tsaythis, more golden brown than chocolate brown like Tusa ended up. Though I'm not sure now, because damn I like how Tusa's skin came out. Idk maybe they just have a wide variation. They travel everywhere I wouldn't be surprised if half of them have non-Tsaythi blood a generation or two back.
NAME Queen Si of Tsayth
WHO IS THIS PERSON Former queen of Tsayth and mother of the current queen, Tusa
GENDER Female
AGE 63
BRIEF BIO Si grew up typically of a Tsaythi, born and raised on a trade ship. For the first twenty years of her life she learned the ways of the sailing ships, learnt how to fight and to lead when necessary (she was pretty much being groomed for first mate, though not captaincy itself) and speak with foreigners in broken Kazinian/Raykinian/Llayan and what things were worth money and when they were best to sell and all that good stuff. Her ship was attacked by pirates a couple of times in her life and, though never captured, they did lose their captain once when she was very young.
The ship always had strong ties to the royal family--I'm going to say the captain was Weset's aunt or something like that--and royal offspring frequently took a trip with them when they sailed out of Ryas, but it wasn't until Prince Weset joined the crew for a voyage when Si was 20 that she started seeing any of them as more than simply another crew member. The two of them quickly became friends, and when, four months into a six month voyage, Weset told her his intentions of taking her for his queen, Si leapt at the chance.
They arrived back in Ryas and married with the king and queen's blessings, then on Weset's twentieth birthday they were crowned the new monarchs of Tsayth. Tsaythi practicality again. Why thrust a kingdom's rulership on a poor kid who's just lost his/her last remaining parent? Far better to let them have their mentors for years to come.
So for the first decade the two of them simply ruled, without the burden/distraction/whatever of children until they had a handle on things after about a decade of ruling. At which point Si popped out seven kids and both tried to distance herself from them and mother them at the same time. Another Tsaythi tradition, you see, is that the offspring vying for the throne tend to start knocking each other off, and she didn't want to see that happening among her children. She did her best to bring them up to be supportive of each other, while not getting too close for fear that she would fall apart if any of them did kill any others.
It mostly worked. Only one of them actually ended up dying (while trying to assassinate now-Queen Tusa, but Tusa defended herself and killed her brother instead) which is something of a record in recent monarch races.
Less than a year ago in story terms, the leadership passed to Tusa and her husband Sian, and Si was able to breathe a huge sigh of relief that none of her other babies would be killed (at least, not by each other) and let out all the grief she'd been holding back for so long.
CHARACTER Resilient, positive, very much a go-getter kind of woman. If any opportunity is put to her, Si will happily shrug and say 'sure, why not?' just to give it a shot, then she'll give it her all to do it right. She's as sensible as any Tsaythi, though possibly a little more emotional than most, but it's led to her saving the lives of six out of her seven royal kids so most people think this pretty admirable, really. She has her moments where she'll remember her son, and she still can't speak his name without tears, but Tsaythis don't see this as weakness so she's unashamed of her grief. Mostly, though, she wants to be a good mother to the children she has left and a good mentor to Tusa and Sian.
POINTS OF INTEREST
She still likes to go on sailing voyages with her old ship, though not as often as she did earlier on in her monarchy.

Date: 2014-09-05 12:58 pm (UTC)So there can be super dark Tsaythis, its just you know... there's not the majority and a lot of other cultures probably haven't seen them. So Nimay is still a rare stand out thing in practically every other culture, especially her own.
Or something. Fan theories.
