Title~ Comfort
Author~ Annarti
Series~ Yrae Chronicles
Warnings~ None of them
Disclaimer~ Mine, mine and~ mine =D
Notes~ 15 minute fic, word 1. Still trying to get rid of writer's block. We're getting there, I think. Anyway, twins as iccle kiddies, from 'may's POV for a change. Why? I dunno. I always do stuff pre-stones in 'min's POV, simply because 'may can't remember any of it anyway, so this is just for something different.

The young girl wrapped her arms tightly around her sister, rich black hair shimmering with silver in the bright flash of lightning. She felt her sister, older than herself by mere heartbeats, tense in her arms as she braced herself for the thunderclap she knew would come.

Nimay hugged her sister tighter, more reassuringly, and counted the time between the flash and distant rumble. She grinned in the darkness; the storm was approaching.

Stunning, white-hot fingers of lightning raked through the night sky. They appeared to almost be silent in their beauty, until the sharp crack of a tree branch snapping a thousand times over quite literally shook the foundations of the small mud brick house.

Rain came rarely in Raykin, but when it did, it did so with great potency, as though Lin was reminding the people that she did indeed exist, regardless of how long it had been since she had last shown her face in the raindrops.

Tonight was no exception. As the echoes of another crack of thunder rolled off into the distance, the rain suddenly dumped itself on the city, thundering into the small mud brick homes as though it wished to wash them all into the Ra-Lin.

Nimay closed her eyes, smiling peacefully, listening to the hammering rain on the roof over her head, on the baked red sand and palm leaves outside. Another flash broke through her eyelids, followed almost immediately by a thunderclap loud enough to drown out the sound of the rain, if only for a moment.

Yamin started in Nimay’s arms and moved closer. The storm was right on top of them now. Gently, Nimay began rocking her sister, stroking her hair comfortingly and smiling as she felt the girl’s heartbeats slow.

Then, as suddenly as the storm had dumped itself upon them, it washed away. The ferocity of the storm seemed to make the silence that followed even more beautiful. Fresh raindrops dripped rhythmically from the now-clean and dust-free palm leaves. Flashes occasionally lit the dark sky in the distance, but they were so far away now they couldn’t be heard.

Slowly, Nimay’s sister drew away from the safety of her grasp, a look of profound thanks on her dark face. Nimay giggled in reply. No words, but the meaning was clear: ‘You’ll have to get used to them sooner or later.’

Yamin merely shrugged and squeezed her sister in a spontaneous embrace.
