Title~ Attack of the Muses
Author~ Annarti
Disclaimer~ All mine
Notes~ Genesis 003. Obviously doesn't take place in Raykin. Cerita/Cherry is one of my two muses, for the uneducated ^^

Yamin tapped the butt of her pen on the table, staring at the blank sheet of paper. Well, to be perfectly honest, it wasn’t entirely blank. There were two verses up the top written in blue ink, various words crossed out, replaced with another, then crossed again with the original in place. And then the entire verse had been crossed. Scribbles decorated the edges of the paper forming into flowers, birds and random stick figures, encroaching on the space on the paper that was blank.

“You know what you need?” Cerita fluttered over her shoulder and flopped very deliberately onto the page, pretending to examine the words Yamin had written. The healer-scribe raised an eyebrow, knowing the tiny pointy-eared purple person couldn’t read Raykinian. Spoken words she was fine, or written down with Latin characters, but the Raykinian script baffled her.

“A muse,” Cherry surmised, grinning up at her.

Yamin rolled her eyes and brushed the muse from her paper, crossing her arms on the desk and staring back down at the blue-lined whiteness. Both the muses had been pestering her to bring one into existence for a while now, but after seeing the way Cerita and Mempi acted, she was rather put off of the idea.

“No, seriously!” Cerita persisted, “You need a muse! Just because they don’t exist in Raykin, doesn’t mean you can’t get one now.”

The healer raised her eyebrows, fixing a flat stare on the silver-winged little muse.

Cherry rolled her glittering eyes as though it was obvious. “Of course a muse like us.”

Yamin shook her head hopelessly, resuming her pen-tapping.

“We do so work! Really hard!”

Snort.

Cerita poked her tongue out. “We only went to Queensland once!”

Yamin turned and fixed another flat, silent stare on the muse.

“…For three months. Over the holidays. You need a muse!”

Yamin’s eyebrows arched over half-lidded eyes. She knew exactly what these little pests did when they were here.

A strange, almost guilty expression came over the muse’s face, but Yamin knew it couldn’t have actually been guilt. The species seemed completely incapable of such an emotion. Almost instantly, it was covered by another tongue-poking.

“You’re just jealous,” the muse declared, then flitted off again.

Yamin rolled her eyes again, then fixed them back on the relatively blank paper. Who in their right mind would voluntarily get themselves a muse or two, she couldn’t imagine.
