This was~ going to be part of that fic I'm writing of which I posted Nimay's mission brief a week or two ago. However, decided last night that it sounds bugger-all like Melraan, so deleting that and starting week five again. Being me tho, I couldn't just get rid of it like that, so I'll let you all have it. Not quite a full page, smidge over 600 words. Supposedly written by Melraan, but as I say, doesn't sound squat like him, so yeah, take it with a grain of salt. Or something.

Nyan rana yn Melraan, di nyan yn Maralu.

I admit it, I read ‘may’s mission brief, but I paid attention during the briefing too. I just wanted to see if I could get anything new from what she wrote. It is several pages long, after all, and the briefing only took a few minutes. Very basic stuff, that, which I guess is fair enough considering it’s going to be read by civilians. Needless to say, didn’t end up gleaning any new information.

The fifteen against two hundred is rather interesting though, in that there’s no factoring in of when the Kazinian army attacks us, as they’re wont to do. Rau and Naraan didn’t fall to the common rabble of Kazinian bandits. I’d image it will end up being more like three hundred, three fifty maybe. Fun for the whole family!

We had one such encounter today, not long after we left the House of Welcoming Gifts. I wouldn’t be surprised if a warning was sent from the House yesterday evening, notifying various authorities that the Raykinian King’s Own had set foot in the kingdom, and that group of soldiers was the best they could come up with at short notice.

Sum total of twenty archers on horseback, of whom I killed none. There’s only so much a swordsman can do when all twenty Kazinian archers are wiped out by your own four before you’ve got a chance to gallop up to them. The only reason I bother unsheathing my sword if there are less than maybe thirty people attacking is to deflect any stray arrows from the Kazinian camp. There’s something to be said for projectiles, I have to say.

Haenel got shot in the arm at one point, but that was just a graze, nothing serious. He’ll learn in time. I honestly can’t see why it’s not taught as part of army training, how to deflect an arrow with your sword. It’s easy enough if you’ve practiced it, but being sent into Kazin with no experience in such matters is a bit harsh, I think. Really will have to talk to Laeron about that when we get back. Or Niloren. One of the two, anyway. Maybe Majesty. Think about that when I get there.

Anyway, battle. I’m supposed to be telling every detail, aren’t I? In all honesty there wasn’t much in the way of battle at all. Nol termed it as target practice and Garuk was annoyed he’d wasted six good arrows.

We’re still in relatively open country, so we can see fairly far ahead through the trees and could see the Kazinians approaching pretty easily. As soon as we catch sight or sound of any horses that aren’t our own, we go into formation, which is essentially swordies up front and everyone else behind, the archers load an arrow, we unsheathe our swords and wait patiently until the Kazinians are within range, then the archers let fly.

Twenty heartbeats later and not a Kazinian is left standing. Or riding, rather.

I’m not too bad with a bow myself, but there’s no way I’d be able to shoot through even sparse trees like these and be able to hit anything but wood. With these four, they mock each other on the rare occasion that they miss. Murali shot one guy in the arm instead of somewhere more fatal, and he’s not going to live that down at least until the next encounter. Only those four could dispose of twenty Kazinians and find fault in it afterwards. They don’t waste an arrow, I’ll give them that.

So yeah, not much in the way of battling there. Bit of quick-fire, bit of arrows clanging on steel, and off we ride again.

Not at all sarcastic enough to be Melraan, far too serious. Yes, he's capable of being serious if he has to be, but he wouldn't be here. Plus he's gone a full page without mentioning beer. That's just wrong for Melraan *deletes from Word and starts again*

edit~ Back up to the full page, and so much happier with it now X) Much more Melraan XD

Oh noes! no mention of beer!

Methinks it's a bit sarcastic, but yeah, generally serious and dry =/
