Lynnlita surveyed her room, draped with heavy curtains and carpets that must have been imported from her home kingdom. There was still something intrinsically Raykinian about the room, but she hadn’t felt at home as much as she did now since she had left Llayad.
She frowned suddenly, noticing that something was missing from the room, something she’d been wishing for since leaving Kazin a month ago.
She turned to look accusingly at her host. “Where is the bath?”
Nolryn blinked at the bizarre demand, then jerked a thumb over his shoulder. “Downstairs, next to the archery range.”
Lynnlita’s eyes widened. “All the way down there? Would it not make more sense for it to be in Lynnlita’s room already? It surely can’t be easy for the servants to carry it up here every day.”
Nol grinned at the younger girl’s confusion. “We bathe down there,” he explained, taking Lynnlita’s hand to drag her to the baths before she could ask any more questions.
The princess frowned in further confusion, but followed Nolryn without a word, certain that her questions would soon be answered.
“Those are the baths, over there,” Nolryn told her, pointing at the bright red dome behind the palace.
A look of vague disgust passed over Lynnlita’s face as it dawned on her just what the prince was saying. “Raykinians all bathe in one room?”
“Mhmm,” Nol grinned.
“Even royalty?”
“Of course. I told you that when I was in Llayad.”
“Lynnlita thought Nolryn was joking…” She could feel the colour draining from her face as they neared the public baths, and she froze at the doorway. “Lynnlita will come back later, with Mama,” she mumbled, then turned and fled back into the palace to find her parents.
