~ ~ ~
Yamin held the trainee blade archer’s finger tenderly in one hand, feeling the magic of the yrae stone weld the bone back together under the skin. The boy sucked in a breath through his teeth and started slightly with the shock of pain that came from the magic, but didn’t complain otherwise.
“Madame?”
Yamin held up her free hand to ask Lii to wait a moment while she finished what she was doing.
“This really can’t wait…”
The head healer frowned at the faintly sheepish tone to Lii’s voice, then smiled apologetically to the young blade archer and turned around.
The training healer was standing nervously beside a woman and her son. The boy was sweating terribly, and his right arm was red and swollen, especially at a point halfway up his forearm. His mother was red for a different reason. She was absolutely fuming.
“Look what your healers have done to my boy!” she almost screeched, drawing the attention of everyone in the healing house and making Yamin jump. “He had nothing more than a spider bite when he came in yesterday, and now look at him!”
The head healer blinked and shook her head apologetically, dismissing Lii discreetly.
“Oh no, you don’t,” the mother continued, “She’s the one who gave him the medicine.”
Yamin’s eyebrows rose and she looked back at Lii accusingly. She wasn’t advanced enough in her training to start administering antivenom yet.
“It wasn’t just me,” she mumbled.
“Ah yes,” the mother said bitterly, “There was a desert woman as well.”
Yamin’s eyes narrowed just barely. ‘Ramnaré?’ she called silently.
The desert healer appeared a moment later, glancing first at the mother, then at her shivering son. Her eyes widened and flicked between Yamin and Lii.
“What antivenom did you bring me yesterday?” she asked Lii carefully.
“White spotted spider, like you asked.”
“…One spot or two?”
‘Clean this up,’ Yamin said evenly, ‘I’ll calm his mother down.’ She smiled pleasantly and took the boy’s mother aside. ‘I want to see you both when they’re gone.’
