Notes~ Genesis 051. Prolly at Lynnlita's birthday. Evelandel's ending up too much like Amyrallyn. I'll have to address that...

“Oh, it’s beautiful!” Lynnlita gushed, holding the necklace up between her fingers, watching how the light twinkled in the tiny little aquamarine jewels set into the rich gold. It was the large turquoise stone at its centre that caught her attention though, almost as big as the stone on her lucky necklace that she always wore.

“Go on, let your sisters see you put it on,” Amyrallyn urged, bouncing over to her younger sister.

Lynnlita obligingly lifted her hair from the back of her neck, allowing Amyrallyn to unclasp the gold chain of her lucky necklace. She handed the new gift back to her, admiring it again as she did so. It really was a beautiful piece of jewellery.

“There,” Amyrallyn said when the necklace had been fixed.

Lynnlita grinned and hopped over to the mirror on the other side of the room, admiring the necklace as it nestled against her chest. Droplets of gold and aquamarine hung from every length of the chain, the lowermost one hanging tantalisingly between her breasts.

“Oh, Evelandel, it’s simply perfect! Lynnlita could not offer enough thanks for such an exquisite piece of jewellery.” She turned her shoulders so the light caught it differently, casting little blue specks over the mirror and Lynnlita’s face.

Evelandel smiled and shrugged modestly. “It is but a small gift for Evelandel’s dear little sister.”

“Well, Lynnlita loves it,” the younger princess said, in a tone that ended the matter. She bounced back over to the sofa, looking down at the necklace and running her fingers over it.

“Even more than this old thing?” Amyrallyn asked, holding up one hand. Lynnlita’s lucky necklace dangled from one finger, as though she were holding something a peasant child had given her.

Lynnlita snatched the turquoise stone from Amyrallyn’s fingers, clasping it protectively to her chest. “Lynnlita is not throwing out her lucky necklace, if such was the intention.”

“But it’s so old and worn!” Amyrallyn protested, “Look, it’s chipped in the corner, there’s a big scratch across it, and the hoop holding the stone on has almost completely worn through.”

“Besides,” Evelandel added, “this new one is just the same, only much, much better. Look at the detailing on it!”

Lynnlita touched the new necklace again, rubbing a thumb over her old one at the same time, feeling the familiar scratches and chips on the old stone. She set her brow in a resolute frown. “Would either of Lynnlita’s sisters throw away their lucky charms?”

Her two older sisters looked at each other uncertainly, then a mischievous glint sparkled in Amyrallyn’s eye. “There are ways of transferring the luck from one object to another,” she mused.

Evelandel clasped her hands. “Ooh yes, Amyrallyn is quite right. When there is next such a person in Nenyad, Lynnlita must take her necklaces to them. She will wear her beautiful necklace yet!”

Lynnlita gave a smile to reinforce the idea, but somehow, she wasn’t so sure.
