“Come, Highness, Lynnlita must come outside now.”

The young princess yawned widely, covering her mouth with the back of her hand and shivering as she sat up in the uncomfortable bed in her wagon. “It’s still early,” she complained, rubbing her eyes. “And cold.”

“Highness should dress warmly then,” the servant told her, “But hurry!”

Lynnlita frowned, only now noticing the excitement in the servant’s voice. She shrugged and yawned again, wrapping her fur-lined cloak around herself. She fished around for the woollen scarf her mother had knitted for her on the way up here, along with matching mittens and a beanie with a bright yellow pompom on top. Rilldana had promised her that they would have the mittens lined with fur when they reached Silrona.

Satisfied that she wouldn’t freeze to death upon leaving the wagon, Lynnlita pulled the curtain aside and stepped out into the Kazinian wilderness, pulling her beanie down over her ears.

She gasped aloud at the sight before her. Last night, when they’d stopped to set up camp here, everything had been dull greyish brown and dismal. This morning, it was simply magical.

Snow had blanketed the mountains in white, as though someone had polished everything and made it look like new again. The trees, completely bare of leaves, stretched their black branches out against the white clouds above in stark contrast.

Best of all, the snow was still falling. The delicate flakes didn’t make a sound as they drifted down from the sky, so very different from rain.

“Oh, it’s beautiful!” Lynnlita cried, forgetting about the cold and the earliness as she stretched her arms wide and turned her face to the sky. She closed her eyes and opened her mouth, waiting until a delicate white flake landed on her tongue with a sharp but pleasant touch of coldness. She laughed happily and squatted down in the snow, scooping some up in her gloved hands and throwing it up in the air. The snow didn’t fall with quite the same grace as the other flakes though.

“Lynnlita wishes to live in Kazin,” she said in wonderment, looking up at the falling snow flakes again.

Rilldana swept up beside her, rich blue coat brushing against the snow as she crouched down to her daughter’s level. She rested her hands on Lynnlita’s shoulders, laughing lightly.

The young princess turned her head to face her mother. “Can she take some home with her, Mother?” she asked.

Rilldana laughed again and shook her head. “No, Lynnlita. Snow is nothing more than frozen water. It would melt back to water before she could get it home.” The Llayan queen took off her considerably more delicate glove and scooped up some snow in her hand. She closed her fingers over the crunchy white substance for a few moments, and when she opened them again, the snow was gone and her hand was dripping with water.

Lynnlita’s shoulders drooped. “What a pity,” she murmured, “Lynnlita would have liked that. Oh well.”

Ha! The mini!Lynnlita one. I still say you should write a mini!Lynnlita learning to do Lynnlita-like activities.

a beanie with a bright yellow pompom <- Just as a question, isn't the terminology a little too modern? And confusing? To me a beanie is one of those doll things filled with beans/dried seeds, not a hat. 'm not saying they can't have them obviously, but just that I think the terminology doesn't work for me.

Also, hang on. She's pulling the beanie over two ears with one hand? Now that's a feat I'd like to be able to copy. (The issue lies with her opening the curtain at the same time. Either she pulls that open really slowly or she's damn fast with pulling that hat over her ears and keeping it there.

“Lynnlita wishes to live in Kazin,” she said in wonderment, looking up at the falling snow flakes again. <- Awwww. That is such a cute little Lynnlita! I love how she reacts to snow. (*wants more, more*)

“Can she take some home with her, Mother?” <- AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW! That is adorable! This snippet is utterly adorable. *melts at the cute* I really, really liked this. *thinks 'cute' and 'adorable' about sum up her feelings*

More mini!Lynnlita adorableness!
