Notes~ Genesis 075. Heading for that pissy little mission to the borderlands which I've barely written anything about. Because it's pissy, little and from their point of view, pretty pointless XD;;

It had been a subtle change over the past week of travel, but this morning the change hit her hard and painfully. She’d been sleeping on at least three rocks overnight, which for some reason she hadn’t noticed when she’d crawled into her tent and collapsed on the bed roll.

She groaned and rubbed her shoulder as she crawled back out into the open, planting her palm firmly on another sharp stone under her bed roll.

“Look at it this way,” Ulkar told her as she stood up and rolled her neck and shoulders to try and eradicate some of the painful stiffness that had settled there overnight, “It’s not wet.”

Nimay smiled and shook her head wryly. He did have a point there, but it was still going to be a particularly uncomfortable day of riding.

She massaged the back of her neck, flinching at the twinge she felt there and wandering over to where the horses were tied up to ready Ashburn for the day’s ride. After grabbing a piece of journey read from her saddlebags, of course.

It wasn’t much longer before she was in the saddle once more, watching the rocky desert landscape roll by. She could see the craggy hills of the borderlands, rising up from the flats of the Raykinian desert. Yesterday they had been just superficial bumps on the far distant horizon, but today they were much more substantial. They’d probably reach the little town tomorrow, then they could just get the mission over with and go back home.

Ashburn’s hooves clopped against the more solid surface underfoot, though not quite so loudly as on the cobbles back in Ni-Yana. It was just a soft, rhythmic clopping that, coupled with the heat of the sun, almost sent her to sleep. She yawned widely, still having not yet woken up properly, and shook her head to try and keep herself in the land of the living. All that did was to aggravate the crick in her neck. That had better be gone by tomorrow morning; Nimay wasn’t in the mood for fighting with a stiff neck.

“You know what would be really nice?” Ulkar said from somewhere up the back, “Going for a run. We could make it to the Aeia-damned town by sunset if we took the horses for a bit of a gallop.”

“We’d also break their ankles,” Rau reminded him, though he was clearly tired of the slow pace as well.

Nimay grumbled quietly in the back of her throat, yawned again, then finally decided to wake herself up properly, and maybe ease out some of the aches she’d gained after a night of sleeping on rocks.

She rolled her shoulders once more and spread her wings, ready to take flight.

“Wish I could do that,” Melraan mumbled.

Nimay grinned and flapped her wings a couple of times, launching herself from the saddle and up into the sky.

“Show off!” Melraan yelled.

Nimay could only laugh and do another back flip.
