Disclaimer~ I dunno who they are, but they're mine.
Notes~ Genesis 104. This~ is part of an idea of mine, to write a minific that introduces each of my characters in their own~ little story, written for anyone who has no clue about the Yrae Chronicles. Because I fully understand that this is a rather intimidating list, and I need a better way to introduce the Yrae Chronicles to the newbies.
So this is part one, which is not technically a character, rather the kingdom of Raykin, or more specifically, it's capital, Ni-Yana. Here~ is a map of the kingdom, here's one of the city, and these three piccies give pretty much the feel of Raykin's landscape. Basically, it's cased on central Australia. Spinifex and saltbush and red sand X3
I have no idea who the kiddies are. Everyone loves random kiddies =D
*shuts up and posts the damn fic*

“You ready?”
“Of course I’m ready!”
“Really ready?”
“Just throw them up, Kii!”
Kii raised cocky eyebrows and ditched the dragon fruit up at her brother on top of the roof. Rather than catch it, the younger boy shielded himself from the vivacity of the throw, leaving the pink-and-green fruit to drop back down for Kii to catch.
“You’re terrible, Gilan,” she taunted, then began scaling the ladder with the dragon fruit lodged firmly under her arm. “Did you at least bring a knife?”
Gilan gave a sheepish grin to his older sister, then hurriedly disappeared back down the ladder to beg Mama for a knife.
Kii took up her favourite spot on the edge of the flat roof, her legs dangling over the side, bare feet slapping against the wall. She set the dragon fruit in her lap and brushed the red dust from her hands that had come from the mud brick of the house.
This house was the absolute best for watching the sun rise in the morning, Kii knew it, and she knew she would never tire of it.
She could see the whole of Ni-Yana from up here, from the deceptively sluggish brown snake of the Ra-Lin in the north-west, to the looming, shadowy form of the palace in the south east. She could see the palm-lined Main Road that lead to the gates of the palace, separating the northern suburbs from the icky southern districts. She poked her tongue out at the southerners for good measure. They were mean people who stole from richer people like Papa.
As the golden disk of the sun began to rise, the milky pre-dawn light melted away, turning the rusty red desert around Ni-Yana into newly polished gold, just like the sun. The clumps of spinifex, more abundant to the north of the river, looked like some strange, fuzzy golden animal army, sitting there patiently protecting the city.
To the north, even more impressive than the red stone outer walls of the palace, the huge cliff that rose up behind the city caught the sun’s new light beautifully, shadowed at the bottom and red-gold at its crest. There was a jagged line of black that was the gorge where the Ra-Lin flowed.
The river itself was already dotted with the brightly coloured sails of the fishermen, and had been since an hour or two before dawn. Kii didn’t know if the fish woke up that early, but they must do, otherwise the fishermen wouldn’t be there.
The markets by the docks were busy as well, crowded full of mingling shoppers, and loud voiced merchants that Kii could even hear from way back here. Papa was among them somewhere. She always tried to listen for his own, resonant voice from the bubbling mixture of noises coming from the markets, but she never could.
“Got it!” Gilan chirped, finally emerging at the top of the ladder. “Mama says you have to cut it though.”
“Finally!” Kii said with a grin.
