Notes~ Genesis 093. ...Well I'm sure you'd start talking to yourself if you'd been essentially alone for 4000 years. Well, 1300-ish by this point, but still. Long time >> Yes, this is an attempt to write more of Yan. Cos he's a complicated bastid and I need to work on getting that on paper properly.

Yan circled over the rolling, golden-brown landscape. The warm air that rose from the Llayan savanna meant he didn’t need to flap his wings at all to stay aloft. Above him, the sky stretched warm and dazzlingly blue, with a few puffy white clouds to break the monotony. He couldn’t see any birds, and with good reason.
Below him, the golden grass that so typified the eastern kingdom was stained red with death. Bodies were strewn everywhere, limbs bent at awkward angles, some not even attached to torsoes anymore. Arrows bristled all over the little town, making it seem as though the Kazinians hadn’t even been aiming when they’d massacred the place.
Yan sighed heavily and shook his head, dipping the air from his wings and lighting on the top of the little town’s castle, calmly surveying the ugly scene below.
None of the townsfolk here had any experience with weapons. The best they could do was to wave their pitchforks and spades for a few brief minutes before the precision of the Kazinian arrows and the force of their blades knocked them down. Even the castle’s Lord was appallingly limited in his swordsmanship. They’d never expected to be attacked by anyone, let alone the might of the whole Kazinian army.
“What in Lin’s sweet and holy name was the point of that?” Yan asked calmly, casting his eyes towards the Kazinian capital, far, far beyond the horizon. “They posed no threat, no opposition, no challenge… No point at all.” He shook his head again and dove off the edge of the castle, wheeling around to follow the Kazinian army’s trail of destruction.
“You’ve outdone yourself this time, Rissa. Why try to overrun a kingdom if you leave no kingdom to run afterwards? What do you want to do? There’s only so much glamour in being supreme empress of a herd of giraffes.”
He tipped his wings slightly to catch the updraft, soaring up above the landscape. The army was still nowhere to be seen, but he would be able to catch them soon enough.
“Incompetent Kazinian. You’re only supposed to kill the royal family, not the whole kingdom. The quieter you are, the better. Llayad was never going to put up a fight. Now you’re just going to find Tsayth waiting for you at the nearest watercourse.”
He sighed again, unable to keep the cynicism from his mutterings. He’d seen too much of the world now to be anything but. “I knew I should have had Anek do this. Raykinians at least know some subtlety. When they’re told they need to use it.”
He flapped his wings a few times to climb higher in the sky and power himself forwards faster. What he did when he caught up to the army, they would just have to wait and see.
