Boring ramble about hands. Because I can~
Nimay has rough as guts hands. They're dry and dusty all the time, her right pinkie and index finger are bent slightly due to them having been broken, and of course she's got tough calluses from her sword hilt. She bites her nails purely because she can't be bothered cutting them, but needs to keep them short for fighting, otherwise they'd just get torn off anyway. As a result, she's also got a bad habit of biting the skin around her nails, so more often than not there's a finger or two healing from that X3;
Yamin has dry hands as well, but she uses cream to keep them soft for working in the healing house. She keeps her nails short as well, but she cuts them with a pair of scissors rather than her teeth X3 She does have the habit of biting the skin around her nails, though she's trying to kick it.
Nol's hands are buggered, faaaar from the hands you'd ordinarily expect of Raykin's crown prince. He's broken just about every finger at some point, though not so much because of battles in Kazin. Not in the true sense of the word, anyway. Mongrel yanks on the reins and sends him sprawling awkwardly onto the ground, and in those times, Nol's first thought is to get out of the way of those hooves rather than preserve a digit or two. He has managed to keep the middle finger of his right hand intact, which is the main one he uses to pull back his bow string. His calluses are obviously more archer-oriented than Nimay; strong grip on his left hand from gripping the bow itself, then on the top joints of his index and middle finger of his right hand from pulling the string back. I love Nol's hands X)
Lynnlita's are obviously bloody perfect. Long, elegant fingers with long, impractical nails that are always painted. She usually wears a ring or three, and she's very proud of her hands, so she never wears gloves unless it's freezing cold.
Flannel Flower's the first one I've actually described the hands of in her story. Couldn't resist X3 She's got long, bony fingers, not elegant at all. They always remind me of a spider's legs, curling around her dagger hilt. She bites her nails through boredom, previously when she was playing the waiting game in her assassination and spying jobs, but more recently (as in, over the last decade and a half or so) because she's been stuck in a cell in the Assiraz dungeons with nothing else to do with her life. She's never broken any fingers, which is impressive since she's been in the Assiraz dungeons for so long. They're known for torture down there, yasee, but she's been well-behaved enough that she hasn't had any of it forced upon her. She did have calluses on them, from her krises, from her bowstring and from doing a lot~ of writing but I'd imagine they've all but disappeared now.
Shizaaqa's hands are where her age shows. She's managed to keep wrinkles from her face, but her hands are starting to show veins and ligaments on their backs. They're still very elegant though, always soft and creamy, always with dangerous-looking dark red nails. She only has a very slight writing callus on her right middle finger, because she usually dictates to her assistant. She does have the occasional letter, of course, that she doesn't want anyone else to know about save for its intended recipient X)
And~ they're all the major charries. I could continue with most of the bois and at least half the healers, but then I'd bore you all to tears XD; I love hands. So much character in them *^^*
