Remember this? Thought I might finally get around to consciously accomplishing some of it. So, over the next two weeks, I'll be introducing you to the desert group that eventually appears in SH, yay!
Here, have a handy family tree =D Anyone without a picture is dead, and the blue couple are pregnant as of when they appear in the story. Yay!
Name~ Laer
Age~ 46
Currently Appearing In~ Silent Harmony, but she hasn't turned up in the latest version just yet.
Orientation~ straight
Origin~ Middle of nowhere
Significant Other(s)~ Qowen. (Children: Weya, Falak and Alir)
Background~ As the eldest child of her own family group, Laer left when the group started to get too big to support itself, so she took herself, Qowen and her kids away to form another group. They wandered as just the five of them for a year or so before joining up with a much smaller group.
This second group was kinda dying. They only had one elder left, who was almost too old to support herself anymore, and everyone else was starving. Slowly they dropped off, leaving the group I described above.
Employment~ Family elder, makes sure everyone's doing what they're supposed to
Appearance~ Raykinians in general look several years older than they are, and desert people especially. Basically add on about 10 years to get an idea of how old they look. Maybe 15 years for Laer, but she's certainly not a weak woman. Short but wiry, she had to do a good deal of hunting back when the group was really struggling to survive. She wears a constant frown, partly because of the sun making her squint all the time, mostly because she rules with an iron fist. Long face, sharp features, standard desert woman.
Distinguishing Characteristics~ Not as such.
Quirks~ Laer's willing to listen to a point. She'll hear two sides to a story, but once she's made her judgement, nothing will change her mind. Rules with an iron fist, especially while all the hunters are out.
Sin-of-Anger~ She's a surly woman, and it doesn't take much to get on her bad side. The rest of the group is kind of made to feel like they have to constantly prove themselves to her. Not entirely a bad thing, since this kind of striving keeps them alive.
Sin-of-Envy~ Nah, not really anybody to envy out there. She doesn't tend to think about Riverfolk at all.
Sin-of-Pride~ She's proud to have survived. She could die tomorrow and be happy, because she's lived her life.
Sin-of-Gluttony~ She doesn't even have an opportunity for that.
Sin-of-Lust~ She likes to emphasise she's outgrown that urge.
Sin-of-Avarice~ Again, not a whole lot of opportunity for that. What's she going to hoard? Rocks and bones?
Sin-of-Sloth~ Oh hell no.
Virtues~ Despite any animosity in the group, she's managed to keep them together. Probably inspirational, even if the others don't realise it.
