Catching up on the days I didn't do at the beginning. This year's not-a-NaNo is pulling character names from a tiny box and giving them character!
Childs are still hard.
NAME Rair AelenMelraana
WHO IS THIS PERSON Daughter of Melraan, one of the current swordsmen in the Raykinian King's Own
GENDER Female
AGE Six
BRIEF BIO Rair has no concept of fame, certainly no idea how famous her daddy is, but she has fully grasped the concept that he's gone for months at a time only to come home feeling tired. She has, of course, made great friends with the other Own kids, especially the swordie kids. Her parents have always talked to her as though she's on their level (which, let's be real here, they pretty much are both six-year-olds) and often Rair can be the most mature in a conversation.
After the second-most recent mission, the one in which the former Own general was killed, Melraan and Aelen decided to tell her just what it is Daddy does for a living, just in case Melraan doesn't return. It didn't completely sink in, though, because lol Melraan being serious. Kid is going to probably grow up with a bit of a warped concept of death. Good job, Melraan.
CHARACTER Rair is fricking adorable. She's a cheeky little minx, completely takes after her parents, who are and have always been more like best friends than a romantic couple. She's supremely confident and willing to strike up conversation with anyone and everyone, never shy, and insists on people talking to her like an adult.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Rah-EER. Raykinians generally pronounce each conjoining vowel as its own syllable (except 'ae' but for them that's one letter anyway).
Melraan's gold chain was a birthday present 'from' Rair. He never takes it off :D
Rair is not going to grow up to be a swordie. Melraan's good at scaring off the competition, so eventually all his war stories make her decide nnnnope that's not the life for me, Daddy, thanks but no.
She'll still have a warped concept of death, though.
She's totally the sort whose best friends will be her parents.
Rair wants a little sister. Aelen LAUGHS and says not on your life, honey.
