Not a NaNo 07: Queen Rilldana
Nov. 8th, 2013 07:13 pmThis year's Not-a-Nano involves giving character to those poor unfortunates who don't have it by pulling their names out of a very small box.

The real reason I've never designed Llayan royalty: dat crown.
NAME Queen Rilldana
WHO IS THIS PERSON Queen of Llayad, mother of Lynnlita
GENDER Female
AGE 68
BRIEF BIO As the middle child of a noble family, Rilldana didn't want to inherit any grand estates or the responsibility of managing them, so she took up an interest in musicianship, particularly with the harp. Her town was close enough to Wensleydale (Llayan capital, just because I only changed the name recently) that she soon attracted the notice of the royal family. Occasionally they came to visit her, sometimes she went to perform for the then-monarchs in Wensleydale. Eventually, the young Prince Keldirande finally plucked up the courage to ask her to dinner. Rilldana declined--she didn't want to inherit a castle, let alone be queen some day.
Keldirande persisted, though, and after a couple of years of pestering, she finally caved and allowed him to officially court her. As per tradition, two years later they were engaged, and another year later (because they're freaking royalty and it takes longer than the traditional six months to organise a royal wedding) they married. They did their royal meet-and-greet afterwards, touring around Tsayth, Raykin and Kazin, before returning home.
Rilldana tried learning from her mother-in-law a bit about ruling, and quickly discovered it's actually not so hard as she thought, mostly because the Llayan royal family doesn't do much in the way of ruling. They have a weekly council meeting, where the council tells them what's going on and what should be done about any issues, and that's about it in an official capacity. Far more important is organising and playing hostess to grand feasts, putting in an appearance at important events like the Llayan Tournament and foreign royal weddings, all the fun stuff.
She and Keldirande have four children: Princess Evelandel, Prince Kuhedrin, Princess Amyrallyn (name pending) and Princess Lynnlita. She's immensely proud of her beautiful children, especially of Evelandel and Lynnlita both taking an active interest in ruling the kingdom, as Rilldana herself never had the guts to do.
CHARACTER Though she takes no interest in ruling the kingdom, Rilldana found her sense of responsibility as soon as she fell pregnant for the first time. She is as devoted to her children as any Llayan mother, and frequently wishes she was able to impart more wisdom on them. She feels she falls short compared to her royal-bred children, but she doesn't let it get her down. She has at least been able to advise about children when the time came for her children to start having them. She's very agreeable, sometimes to the point of frustration because you can never really pick what SHE wants, and can come off as a bit of an airhead. She never wanted power. She just loves her family.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Rilldana is very self-conscious of her hands these days. She always wears long gloves to cover the wrinkles. She doesn't like how age has crawled all over her.
If live-action ever happened, like NOW, Rilldana would be played by Dame Helen Mirren. I used her as a reference for the picci, then just threw a shitload of gold at her.
She has more than one crown. Mix and match, y'know.
Rilldana still loves her music, but because of her old hands she doesn't play the harp anymore. She invites as many musicians to the castle as she can find, and loves putting on concerts.

Date: 2013-11-08 10:50 am (UTC)Its lovely how she was just a simple girl at first, that always makes a good leader when they marry into it rather than are born into it, the people can relate more. I bet her harp playing was beautiful. Also love how she didn't want to be courted at first! Who would want to be queen really? But he wore her down, good lad. Now they have all the gorgeous babies!
Her glove wearing is so sad D: Very realistic trait though. I bet her husband still finds her hands beautiful?
