Date: 2014-01-01 03:23 pm (UTC)6. Eating habits and sample daily menu
Anything and everything. He goes to a restaurant at least once a week as his 'chef's night off' and also for inspiration, but he'll always order something he couldn't manage, or couldn't be bothered to do, at home. Also once a week he'll cook something properly awesome for himself. He has varying levels of effort, but it will always be something with an awesome sauce (that he's likely made earlier in the week so he just bungs it on), usually a chunk of meat and veggies. He likes experimenting with Kazinian spices and, less so, Llayan herbs. Everything he cooks has punchy, strong flavours and is generally a mix of Kazinian and Raykinian flavours. He likes to have a different meat each night--fish one night, chicken the next, then lamb, then nira, beef, and so on. Fish is his favourite, but he misses the ocean catches from his hometown by the sea. River fish has never tasted as fresh as the sea.
Breakfast, like all Raykinians, tends to be hastily grabbed fruit or fresh bread on the way to work, because it's arse-o'clock in the morning. For lunch, he'll often get something made for him at the palace kitchens (Own's prerogative) or get something simple from the markets if he's done training for the day. Sometimes it'll be left-over dinner from last night. Dinner, already discussed, but that's the major meal for Raykinians.
On missions, it's generally some sort of stew or stir fry whipped up for the boys, with more meat than he would usually eat because he knows the boys don't appreciate bok choy and string beans as much as he does. His signature is duck à l'orange, or a camping version of it, which he'll usually bring out shortly after leaving the Kazinian city of their journey when he's had a chance to stock up on spices. He considers it pretty goddamn basic, but compared to a chunk of cow on the grill or boiled eggs, it's pretty goddamn gourmet.
27. What is his biggest regret?
Later on in life, it'll be not having opened up to Sebastian earlier. For now, he doesn't really have one. He's pretty chilled with his position.
28. Who does he see as his best friend? His worst enemy?
For the first, Rumal. He, Rumal and Emon are the old hats of the Own's swordies, and both of them have a similar, cynical view of the world.
For the second, Kurae doesn't have enemies. He kills Kazinians for a living but has never really considered them enemies. The archers and blade archers of the Own irritate the living piss out of him, but he's learned over the years that ignoring them is plenty enough to make them go away.
47. How does he express love?
POORLY. Familial love, well, he hasn't seen them for a while so that's up in the air, and also I don't know what their character is and whether he'd be happy to see them again. Friendship love, he grins at their jokes and makes his own very droll jokes back, hang an arm over their shoulders. Intimate romantic love, bloody awkwardly and never publicly.

Date: 2014-01-01 03:37 pm (UTC)She goes riding probably once or twice a week, which I'm told is pretty vigorous if you're really going for it. She's not doing it as exercise, though, rather because it's just fun.
22. Given a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen?
Lots of little sketches of mythical creatures, pretty decent by our standards but pretty amateurish by Llayan standards.
24. Is there one subject of study that she excels at? Or does she even care about intellectual pursuits at all?
Llayan politics, as distinct from world politics which she is disappointingly inept at. She values intellectual pursuits highly, but equally values artistic pursuits, as any good Llayan noble will. She loves reading stories, especially romance stories, and values an author above all other pursuits.
31. Most prized possession?
A necklace, gold chain with a big turquoise stone, which was a present (heirloom maybe? I think both grandmothers died before she was born) from her now-dead grandmother.
33. Concept of home and family?
Family is everything. Both parents equally raise the children, and set aside everything in order to do so. This is the Llayan norm, even among royalty, and Lynnlita is anxious to start a family of her own. Her only issue is that she's kinda set her sights on the one man who won't take her, silly bint (but that'll change so that's okay).
36. What makes her feel guilty?
Very little. Usually completely impersonal things that she feels she should have had some control over, like a parent's child dying of an illness or wars going on in Kazin. With personal things, she'll only feel guilty if she can see she's genuinely hurt someone's feelings.

Date: 2014-01-01 03:50 pm (UTC)Kazinian royalty and indulging, oh hell yes. Assili looooves an awesome dessert and an extravagant play or musical performance such as only the imperial palace could afford. And new clothes. Throw these all in one and she'll be a happy princess.
19. What does she think about before falling asleep at night?
Ooh I like that one. Assili thinks back over the day and the biggest issue or two that came up during it, then recites the lines over in her head that she wishes she had thought of at the time and imagines the complainant's dumbfounded response to them.
20. Childhood illnesses? Any interesting stories behind them?
Nope! Not so much as the flu for this one.
28. Who does she see as her best friend? Her worst enemy
For the first, big brother Kanera and mummy Shizaaqa. Yeah, she hasn't had any chance whatsoever to mingle with girls her own age, and she maintains that she doesn't want to, anyway. She wants to be treated as an adult, and hanging out with twelve-year-old girls isn't good for that image.
For the second, doubtless there's the odd minister or two who refuses to speak to her as a woman of authority, but equally doubtless Shizaaqa would have them sacked as soon as Assili voiced it, so such enemies don't hang around long. Probably Mithé and Nolryn, purely because Shizaaqa can't just wave a hand and sack them like she can with anyone else.
48. If this person were to get into a fist fight, what is their fighting style like?
....AHAHAHA That came out of nowhere XD She's curl up on the floor, screeching for their head, and have them executed as soon as she was physically able. This will never happen :D

Date: 2014-01-01 04:13 pm (UTC)5. Cleanliness habits (personal, workspace, etc.)
For himself, very decent! He'll bathe at the end of a hard day's training, or if it's been a hot enough day that he feels stinky. He brushes his hair but it's still a bit of a mess.
His bedroom and office, much less so. The palace staff at least keeps his room tidy, hanging his clothes up and so on (he's the goddamn prince he's allowed to not pick up after himself), but his office follows the volcano filing system, in that everything important eventually comes to the edge. He insists he knows where everything is, so touch that space at your peril.
On missions, he keeps his bags surprisingly tidy, mostly because he knows he often needs to get to them in the cold, dark and wet, and would rather not fossick through and half empty them to get what he's after.
10. Neuroses? Does he recognise them as such?
Not really. Yes, I know we joke about magic and snakes, but honestly? When he says 'I just don't like them' he's being perfectly honest. Like any normal person, he's going to be a bit jittery if there happens to be a snake in the same bloody room as him. He's likely to yell if you throw one at him. He doesn't like having a snake head for the pommel of his sword, because he was bitten by a snake as a child, but he's not irrationally scared of using it.
Magic has always made him uncomfortable, growing up with stories of how it turned Yan evil (it was actually the power that did that, but y'know) and then Nimay's deliberate display to frighten him. But they're just childhood fears that he would probably have grown out of. As an adult? Magic crept its way into his brain and messed with his thoughts and made him think things he wasn't thinking. It made him forget who he was. With that in mind? He's coped remarkably well.
13. Sexual orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts of sexual orientation in general?
Obviously straight so that's clearly not the question. His thoughts? Pretty much take a back seat. Yoryl is the only person he directly knows who's gay, and frankly he sees Yoryl as an irritating blade archer before anything else. I think he sees orientation as a choice, but has no prejudices for or against whatever choices people make. He can't himself say why he chooses ladies over men, and doesn't think anyone else should have to justify that, either.
14. Physical abnormalities? (Both visible and not, including injuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.)
His hands are a mess~ he's broken every finger at least once, except for the vital index and middle finger of his right hand that he pulls his bowstring back with. He's allergic to oysters, nothing else so far as he knows, and that's the lot.
38. What recharges them when they're feeling drained?
Mentally drained, then it's going to the archery range and shooting things for a while, or going to the pub if it's the right time of day for that. Physically drained, then it's a long bath, a long back massage and a long sleep. Being the prince means he very rarely has the chance for all three of those at once, but he makes sure he at least tries when he gets back from a mission. Inevitably, though, his brain will start niggling at him and wake him up before he's properly recovered.

Date: 2014-01-01 04:24 pm (UTC)Sort of. On a basic, superficial level, he knows that every mission he goes on could be his last, and is jolted by this reality whenever he sees one of their number die. However, he does kind of have a 'that happens to other people, not me' mentality about death. It's served him well so far =/
45. Does he express their thoughts through words or deeds?
Words, for the most part. Kaen will promise the world then do his best to get out of delivering.
28. Who does he see as his best friend? His worst enemy?
This is coming up a lot. That'll be Yoryl, fellow dickhead blade archer. The guy he replaced (whose name I forget, assuming he ever had one) wasn't quite as much fun. The two of them come up with as many plans as they can for getting at the archers.
For an enemy, that'd be Rumal. His favourite saying to Rumal is that 'money alone does not a rich man make.' Even after 12 years or however long it's been, he still sees Rumal as an imposter, someone who taints the good name of the Own, even though most of Ni-Yana has forgotten where he came from. He baits Nol to no end, but only because he knows he'll always get a rise out of him, not so much through any genuine malice.
19. What does he think about before falling asleep at night?
Sex. He never goes to sleep without first having sex with his wife, whether she wants it or not.
no subject
Date: 2014-01-01 04:33 pm (UTC)This is always my favourite question X3 Very orderly. A big, open room on the top floor with the third wall completely open to the balcony. He has a double bed, a minimal wardrobe and clothes chest, and his saddle bags and other mission-critical stuff hung and stored in the corner. He keeps things neat and tidy, never letting any clothes scatter over the floor.
13. Sexual Orientation? And, regardless of own orientation, thoughts on orientation in general?
Gaaaay but he hides it well, because Kurae thinks that's his own bloody business. He hates to be talked about, and knows that if it got out, he'd be the most talked-about man in Ni-Yana for MONTHS. He sort of envies those who had the courage to make their orientation public and not care about what people say about them, but doesn't reckon he'll ever have that level of confidence.
36. What makes him feel guilty?
Praise, because he doesn't think he's earned it. Because he's a pretender in that one aspect of his life, he feels like he is in everything else, too.
no subject
Date: 2014-01-01 04:45 pm (UTC)Erm. He's got some complex, but I don't think those are it. He's the crown prince and VERY aware of that in everything he does, but not in a holier-than-thou kind of way, rather in a 'this is my responsibility' way. He fears he won't be good enough to rule Raykin, but again, pretty realistic fear. He's set to be a shit ruler.
21. Turn-ons? Turn-offs?
Fleeehhh I have no idea. Tbh I never really go much into the sexy side of characters >> Okay um, turn-ons? Well we know it's Nimay, so probably physical strength? Turn-offs... talking about sex. NEXT QUESTION.
29. Reaction to sudden extrapersonal disaster (eg The house is on fire! What do they do?)
'The palace is MADE OF STONE HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?'
Okay seriously though? He'd take instant responsibility. Coordinate everyone around him to do some task, be it helpful or just something to stop them from panicking at him, probably not actually do a lot himself because it's his duty as prince to see the big picture and fix it that way.

Date: 2014-01-01 04:53 pm (UTC)40. How misanthropic is she?
HELLISHLY SO. She hates everyone and everything, no exceptions. She hates herself most of all.
11. Intellectual pursuits?
Criticism. Does that count? She's an expert at finding the cloud in the silver lining, as it were.
47. How does she express love?
She doesn't. She genuinely hates everyone and everything.
32. Thoughts on material possessions in general?
Chardonnay has a huge collection of scarves, the better to hide her fugly face (or so she sees it), but she has no particular attachment to them. They're things. She hates them but they cover her face so she keeps them around.

Date: 2014-01-01 05:02 pm (UTC)Very small and ship-cabin-like, I'd imagine, with everything nailed down so it doesn't slide about on the waves. She only adorns it with what gifts Li-Ying imparts on her, so there are probably some very tasteful Asian scarves and such pinned over her window as curtains, and non-fragile ornaments displayed on a shelf and held in with some ingenious carpentry.
34. Thoughts on privacy? (Is she a private person, or is she prone to 'TMI'?)
Though it's hard on a ship in close quarters, she believes that if a person has a secret they don't want to share, they shouldn't be prodded to expose it unless it's something that might endanger the ship. Keeping an air of class about the ship is important; no parading around with your tits hanging out, ladies.
45. Does she express her thoughts through words or deeds?
Mostly, through deeds, though she will snap her thoughts loudly as a warning for the deeds that are sure to follow. She doesn't like to talk much with people she doesn't like, but likes to perform random acts of kindness for those she does.
46. If she was to fall in love, who (or what) is her ideal?
Li-Ying :D She's already fallen in love, since Li-Ying saved her life, but she sees the gorgeously elegant captain as waaay out of her league. (Or so we think. Who knows what goes on behind closed doors?)

Date: 2014-01-01 05:27 pm (UTC)3. Does she exercise, and if so, what does she do? How often?
Her day job--shovelling salt from the distilling domes in Ryas, the Tsaythi capital--is exercise enough. Prior to that, she worked on a ship and, once again, didn't need to schedule any exercise into her day.
7. Favourite way to wast time and feelings surrounding wasting time.
Thiras doesn't have any time to waste. She can't stand being useless, and is likely to go stir crazy if she's left relaxing for more than five minutes. She can't tolerate laziness.
8. Favourite indulgence and feelings surrounding indulging.
Complicated. Thiras' life is boring, and she's always thought Tsayth too practical for its own good, like a blank canvas that's crying out to have something painted on it. The most she can allow herself is to look at pretty things, be they sea shells or a lightning storm on the horizon, or man made creations. Living now in Ryas, though, she sees a whole lot less of that than she did when she was on a ship.
14. Physical abnormalities? Both visible and not, including injuries/disabilities, long-term illnesses, food-intolerances, etc.)
SHE HAS LONG HAAAAIIIR in dreadlocks. That's an abnormality for a Tsaythi. She's broken fingers in her ship life, resulting in many of them being oddly bent but still fully-functioning and not at all painful.
17. Preferred mode of dress and rituals surrounding dress.
Typical practical Tsaythi. She wears what is basically a fibrous sheet with a hole cut in the middle for her head and tied at the waist with arms kept free for movement. She also wears a leather thong tied around her neck. No rituals as such, unless being clothed among people counts.
26. Does she have any plans for the future? Any contingency plans if things don't work out?
Yes, but that would be telling. (no, really, I do have that figured out, but I can't tell you what it is because ~*~Spoilers~*~)
27. What is her biggest regret?
She told her secret to her husband, with whom she'd had a daughter. He told the crew and they all dumped her ashore at the next town. Her regret was that she hadn't told him earlier and seen what a dick he was before she'd been married to him for ten years.
31. Most prized possession?
Her five-year-old daughter, Eti. Material possessions, eh, she doesn't really care. Tsaythis don't tend to own much. Everything Thiras owns is easily replaced.
53. What activities does she enjoy, but considers to be a waste of time?
Swimming! But she kids herself it's not a waste of time because she's teaching her daughter to swim at the same time.
39. Would you say that she has a superiority-complex? Inferiority-complex? Neither?
Earlier in her life she had an inferiority complex, since she's a bastard child and massively shunned by Tsaythi society because of it. She's a mature enough woman now to know that's all crap, though, and has largely gotten over it.
44. Superstitions or views on the occult?
Yeah nothing. Anything she can't see with her own eyes is stupid.
49. Is this person afraid of dying? Why or why not?
Nope, she feels pretty safe where she is now. She's deliberately living on land these days to keep her daughter safe. Ryas is such a small 'city', for want of a better word, that very little of consequence happens there. Storms used to frighten the poo out of her when shipboard, but now she's on land she's happy and safe.

Date: 2014-01-02 04:12 am (UTC)Books aren't a big thing in most of Tsyllaes, because they're expensive to produce and, at least in Raykin, using them for something so frivolous as fiction stories seems like the biggest waste of money. However, if we're just talking stories in general, which are pretty much passed down verbally, Yamin loves the desert stories of her heritage. They're basically stories about how the world was formed in some magical way.
16. Biggest and smallest long term goal?
Biggest, obviously, getting rid of Yan. He may be dead but he's not dead enough. Smallest? Probably coming out of her shell, now that Nimay knows she's around and she doesn't have to hide out of necessity, she wants to get back out into the world.
31. Most prized possession?
Despite all it means, all it caused in the past, her yrae feather. She's learned over the years since having it thrust on her how to use it to heal, better than any medicine or herb, and she values that very highly.
35. What activities does she enjoy, but considers to be a waste of time?
Nothing, really. If she's enjoying it, then the enjoyment she gets from the activity means it's not a waste of time. Nights out with the girls, which can of course only happen when Nimay's not in the country, are probably the most of it.
44. Superstitions or views on the occult?
She doesn't have any real superstitions of her own. Occult stuff doesn't have any standing in Raykin, unless the yrae counts, but that's real and she knows it is so I don't suppose it does. Eh, not really a thing, in her mind.

Date: 2014-01-02 04:46 am (UTC)1. What does his bedroom look like?
He doesn't have one! He's paranoid of sleep and hasn't slept since his daughters brought him back. His body doesn't know when it's eaten or drank enough, so how would it know when he'd slept enough? He could very easily go to sleep and never wake up.
Back in the day when he was alive, even the 'palace', such as it was, was pretty basic. It was still built of stone like the modern one, and had several rooms more than the average house, but they'd only been a civilisation for about 20 years, so yeah. His bedroom would have been not much bigger than the double bed that fitted in it, and that bed was just a block of stone raised above the ground--hadn't invented mattresses yet. The fourth wall would have opened out onto a small balcony of sorts, but it wouldn't have been anything special.
2. Does he have any daily rituals?
Every morning he talks to his family and reiterates his promises to them. He knows they're out there somewhere, whether they're around to hear him that morning or not is irrelevant, because they might be the next day.
7. Favourite way to waste time and feelings surrounding wasting time.
Yan has all the time in the world so he doesn't really feel that he's wasting it. His favourite pastime is to just go flying. It's his greatest stress relief.
12. Favourite book genre?
Yan doesn't read to enjoy the story. He does, however, chase any legends that might help him to live again. His own very real story became legend, so he continues searching for one that might have a grain of truth to bring him back to life.
18. Favourite beverage?
Beer. He's still Raykinian X3 The alcohol doesn't affect him, though, because he doesn't have a bloodstream for it to get into.
20. Childhood illnesses? Any interesting stories behind them?
Nothing out of the ordinary. Before he found his yrae feather, he lived with his family in the desert, where any serious illness was generally seen as a weakness to the group--providing food and care for someone who not only couldn't give any of it back but might also infect the rest of the group was too much of a burden to carry in such a harsh place, so they were usually left to die. Since Yan made it through that period of his life, it stands to reason he never had anything serious enough to keep him from his duties.
22. Given a blank piece of paper, a pencil, and nothing to do, what would happen?
Realistically he'd just go flying, but to keep with the question let's pretend he puts pencil to paper. Probably a whole lot of swirly doodling that doesn't actually look like anything, but would end up filling the paper.
35. What activities does he enjoy, but considers to be a waste of time?
Flyyyying~ but again, more of a stress relief and a time to think rather than a waste of time. Can you waste something that's infinite?
36. What makes him feel guilty?
Nothing anymore. He felt guilty for about a century for killing Qewir (the guy who killed him) but eventually he forgave himself for that. He felt guilty for his family's life after his death, but again, eventually forgave himself that because he wasn't around to tell them to stop wasting their lives on him.
47. How does he express love?
By. Avenging them. Yep. So romantic >> He cares for the twins, which he's told them but they don't really believe him. He's trying to teach them all the lessons he'd neglected to teach his own daughters and son. TEACHING there we go. He expresses love by teaching. Just a weird and kind of harsh way of teaching.
