Character 100-ish 041: Lii

This brings up a question: Raykinian healers now have blokes. Do I therefore create some healer blokes or turn some of the ladies into blokes? Realistically I'll do bugger-all with them either way, but I reeeeeally don't know that I can be buggered making ten more healers.
I don't know why but it was really hard to get the shading on her cheek right.

WHO IS THIS PERSON Training healer at the Raykinian palace healing house

BRIEF BIO Lii grew up in Ni-Badra at the mouth of the Ra-Lin, daughter of a blacksmith and a healer. She's always loved to sing, and met her first boyfriend that way, humming to herself on the way home one day. He was a trader working off the coast, mostly working around southern Kazin and gone for usually no more than a month or two at a time. When they became more of an item, he encouraged her to get a job singing at a restaurant, which she initially laughed off as loving bias. She did eventually give it a try, and succeeded in getting a job at one of the city's high-class restaurants.
They married when Lii was 17 (again, Raykinian tradition, full moon after his 20th birthday), and he earned a place on one of the bigger trade ships, heading north to Kazin, because money. She spent six months with him on the ship once, but decided she preferred keeping her feet on solid ground.
When she was 22, her husband's ship didn't return. She watched anxiously from the docks every day for months, but he never returned. Her songs at the restaurant turned towards the melancholy, still beautiful, but getting a bit much for casual diners to listen to night after night. So, on the advice of her friends and family, she left Ni-Badra and its pain behind and moved upstream to Ni-Yana.
She started out singing again, instantly getting a job with her beautiful voice, but the same thing happened again in that her songs were just too melancholy. So she decided to take her career in a completely different direction and applied at the palace healing house. Yamin, of course, took her in and started her training. She made friends with Fali and moved in with the other girl, and that's where she is today. She's only been training for a year or so, so still a fair way off from getting her healer's band, but she shows promise.
CHARACTER Always a fairly quiet girl, Lii became particularly withdrawn since her husband went missing. Since meeting Fali especially, she's at least ready to smile now, but still not quite ready to move on. She still looks downstream whenever she's by the river, still has fraction of hope to tinge her melancholy, but she's definitely glad she made the move. She's a sweet girl, and never likes to leave any situation angry--you never know what might happen.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Lii hums to herself often, and still loves to sing. Being a healer is mostly her backup plan. She'd still love to get back to singing professionally again.
Shooooort and flat chested, she looks a lot younger than she really is.

Date: 2014-02-23 12:41 pm (UTC)Her story is so sad. I want to make you have her husband return from being shipwrecked and having amnesia and stuff, but I like her sad backstory too SO I GUESS I SHALL NOT TRY AND FORCE YOUR HAND.
Keep the healers as they are. It just turns out at the moment that the top dogs of the healing house happen to all be female. These things happen.

Date: 2014-02-24 08:44 am (UTC)I was thinking that while I was typing out her backstory again! Future-verse thing, mebee X3 He was kidnapped by PIRATES and escapes through swashbuckling antics to return home to his bonnie lass. Or something.
I'll just let the blokes appear as they're needed. Chuck one or two in there for the rewrite and not bother elsewise.
