One more to do of Yan's immediate family, excluding Yan himself, whose name I actually pulled out of the small box months ago but as one of the top eight he'll be done near the end.
Tricky to figure out her looks, because on the one hand her mother is drop-dead gorgeous and on the other her father is Yan. So. Tricky one.
NAME Crown Princess Mina of Yrae-kin
WHO IS THIS PERSON Back around a thousand years ago, she was next in line to the Yrae-kin throne. Daughter of King Yan and Queen Aliah.
GENDER Female
AGE Deceased age 60-ish; pictured, as most of Yan's family has been, as he remembers her in her late teens
BRIEF BIO Mina was always Papa's favourite, but of course you have to remember just who Papa was to realise this doesn't mean Mina had any advantage. She was pushed hard from a very early age, expected to take over the rule of the kingdom after Yan's passing, but Mina took to it like a duck to water. She loved to learn, to exert her authority and prove her strength, to her father, her people and to herself. She understood all that was required to keep order in the growing city and was well-poised to follow in her father's footsteps.
And then Yan was killed in his bed by his advisor, and Queen Aliah ran with her children back into the desert to escape certain death. Mina resented her mother for this, believing it to be a weak move from who she thought was a strong woman, but she was still young enough at that stage to respect her mother's wishes and stay with her, but she wouldn't stand idle. One of the big lessons Yan had taught his children, the biggest of them, was the value of life. Mina, knowing her father's life was taken prematurely and that he deserved more of it. With her magic knowledge that Yan had taught her, she would bring him back to life.
So that pretty much was her life. They recovered Yan's body from the river and healed his face, then set about developing their magic to bring him back. They experimented with small animals and birds until, after 25 years or so (again, I really need to solidly establish timelines here) they succeeded in bringing an eagle chick back to life. The effort, though, was too much for Aliah to handle, and the former queen died. This created a rift between brother and sisters, and Mina's brother, Noku, left the family in disgust.
Another decade and a bit of trying, and the twin sisters succeeded! Only not really. Mina saw Yan's fingers move, saw his eyes open, but the effort of keeping life in his body was, again, too much, and she and her sister both died. And Yan's still dead, too, so. Suckage.
CHARACTER Determined and stubborn to a fault. Mina was always sure to assert her authority, even over her mother. She was always asking Yan for more, more learning, more magic, more power. She loved the challenge of ruling. After Yan's death, when her life's purpose was effectively snatched from her, she was at a loss about what to do without him, so her life was consumed by trying to bring him back.
POINTS OF INTEREST
She used a griffin feather to heal Yan's eye. Yeah, I wondered how she did it, too, without the yrae feather. Llayan fairy tale showed me that one :D
She was probably a bit nuts by the end. Or by early twenties. Yeaaahhh.
