NAME General Misbah
WHO IS THIS PERSON Current general of the Assiraz army, also not-husband to Empress Shizaaqa and father of Assili, Sahid, Kanera and Shoaib
GENDER Male
AGE 45
BRIEF BIO Born and raised in Old Assiraz, which is the artistic and cultural heart of modern Kazin, but Misbah always felt profoundly uncomfortable there. He was originally trained as a musician in his mother's theatre, but it never came naturally to him. He disappointed both parents by signing up for army training as a teenager, and knew he'd have to do pretty bloody well to earn their approval.
So Misbah worked hard with both weapons and theory in his training, especially since he came to training late by Kazinian standards. But rather than simply throw himself into his studies to the exclusion of all else, he also got himself in with the army hierarchy right from day one. He made his intentions known, from the lower sergeants through all the way to the Commanding Circle and then-General Nazir, Empress Shizaaqa's father, and of course Shizaaqa herself.
By drawing this attention to himself, he was constantly being given opportunities to prove himself in command, both by people hoping he'd fail and by those hoping he'd succeed. And succeed he did, not only on the battlefield but also where power really matters, in the empress' bedroom. He was officially named general upon Nazir's retirement, when Misbah was 35. Since then he's done lots of general-y things that I have neither time nor inclination to go into right now but I'm sure it'll start happening once I have all the commanders done.
CHARACTER Very stern, unsmiling man. He never raises his voice or openly shows anger, but there's something in his clipped words and strained patience that you know you've pissed him off and will pay for it later with like a demotion or something. Yeah he'll do that.
POINTS OF INTEREST
His parents are proud of him now, in that 'you're lucky things worked out for you' kind of way that says they clearly don't know how much effort he's put into getting that far.
Misbah is the only man for whom Shizaaqa holds any respect. She still regards him as being beneath her, but she will listen to his opinions and sometimes even change her mind based on what he says.
