Character 100-ish 103: Murali
Aug. 3rd, 2014 09:28 pmKind of over having broken airconditioning now. My fingernails have gone purple from drawing .-.

I don't... what? Murali when did you get hot? That was never in your character description before. When did that happen?
NAME Murali
WHO IS THIS PERSON Current archer in the Raykinian King's Own, and if you haven't figured out who they are after 100+ characters then you really haven't been paying attention.
GENDER Male
AGE 38
BRIEF BIO Murali was brought up in high-class Ni-Yana as the son of a Second General in charge of all the army's archers. His was a large household of five boys, of whom Murali was the middle child, and all five of them ended up in army training, all being groomed for command. Murali ended up being the favourite child not only because he was one of the stronger leaders of the boys, but he more than showed promise with his bow, too. He graduated at 22 and was offered a chance to challenge the King's Own for a place four years later, but he turned it down. He's always wanted to be general more than be in the Own.
Three days later, he met Mithi, who you've met earlier on in this challenge. On his way home from training, Murali saw an assassin with his hands around Mithi's neck. With hardly a thought, Murali pulled off his bow and shot an arrow past Mithi's ear and into the assassin's. It was Mithi's initiative that saw them get to know each other--she felt she owed him at least that much for saving her life, and in the end they grew to love each other, too. They married when Murali was 29, pretty late for a Raykinian but he's always been a workaholic.
It was when Mithi discovered she was to be sent on a trip with some other ministers to Assiraz, with the Own as her escort, that Murali finally caved in and challenged the Own. He wanted to protect her. He's completely loyal to his wife, and brings her back a present from missions as an apology for not having been around for her.
After five years with the Own, Murali lost his position to Prince Nolryn, leaving Murali to set his focus back on becoming First General. However, the first mission he wasn't a part of saw Naraan, one of the other archers, killed. Murali was by default asked back in. He had half a notion of not accepting, but in the end loyalty to his old friend won out. He couldn't bear to see any of his other friends die if he had a chance to save them. Also good opportunity to get to know the future king, also the one who appoints the First General, but that's not what made him sign back up. He's not Kazinian.
CHARACTER Ambitious, quiet, rarely cracks a smile except when he's with the archers. The other archers are usually the ones to do something stupid and Murali will just go along with it. He doesn't really fit with the other three, regardless of which 'other three' you're talking about, but they all get along. He's still hell-bent on making First General, and Nolryn's all but promised him he'll be appointed when the current First General resigns. He's an exceedingly patient man, rarely ever gets openly angry despite the constant scowl, and he'll wait for as long as he needs to before he gets his position.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Neither Murali nor Mithi have any interest in children. They know they’re both too attached to their jobs and that any child they had would be raised by nannies and home tutors, so they decided it would be best not to.
Despite public perception, Murali is not the shortest of the Own riders. That dubious honour goes to the swordsman Ulkar. Murali just looks pitifully short because he's always with the 6-foot-plus archers.
Gylepi uses his head as an arm rest. Murali doesn't much care.
