So it turns out the Kazinians aren't the only ones who have high ranking officials in their army. Goddamnit I've already done this nine times for them.
Niloren is Bruce Willis. Just so you know. Only he has big eyebrows.
NAME First General Niloren
WHO IS THIS PERSON The current head of the Raykinian army
GENDER Male
AGE 45
BRIEF BIO Niloren was the product of a time when the army was just getting the reputation as a cushy job. They never went anywhere, never fought anyone more serious their training partners, and were basically just highly paid for nothing. Niloren himself grew up in a household that ridiculed this very heavily, and mocked the ever-living hell out of Niloren when he announced he was going to sign up for army training himself.
Niloren wasn't signing up for that cushy lifestyle, though. He wanted to shake things up, climb to the top and get the royal family, whoever they happened to be by the time, to recognise how lazy the army had become. If anyone were to invade Raykin, he argued, the army would be pathetically ill-trained to fight them back. So in training, Niloren focused hard on the tactics and leadership side of things, only doing as much with his weapons as he needed to get through. He was quickly promoted to Third General in his Company of swordies, and made it to First General about a decade ago.
Unfortunately for Niloren, he ended up with anti-war Mithé as king, and while Mithé could see his point, he wasn't about to send his troops off to war just to give them a taste of battle. He made use of his Own, of course, but hasn't done much more than send half of Twentieth(?) Company off to the borderlands to beat back bandits while the townspeople build dams to defend themselves.
More recently, in Silent Harmony, Mithé's died and Niloren's kind of taken control of Ni-Yana a lot. He's getting everyone ready for the war he knows is coming, getting as many people into the army as he can to defend his homeland.
CHARACTER Ruthless, uncompromising, every bit the man in charge. Niloren doesn't have much of a sense of humour, and his patience is often tried by insubordination and, worst of all, the King's Own. He's still Raykinian, though, and will enjoy a beer either in the palace bar or at one in town (not the Thrai, though. He avoids the King's Own) just not as regularly as others might.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Niloren gets a bad rap because I've only ever written him through very biased eyes: the Own, who love to rib him purely because their general outranks him as far as their missions are concerned, and Kael, who is a dirty southerner and okay yeah Niloren is prejudiced but to be fair Kael started it.
Niloren's name was originally a side-joke in a ye olde minific where some kid's mum was mistaking him for Nolryn. Because I wasn't thinking and didn't realise that the First General would have an actual place in this world. And now everyone will get his and Nol's names mixed up. I keep typoing it as Nilroen.
