King's Own: Big Book of Stuff

I'm so pleased I made them all seated :D This is what I had in my head when I started. I love how they all came out, my boys! I love the character in their poses, which was the main reason I drew them sitting (final reason being it fits best in the top right corner of the page where they go in the Big Book of Stuff). I love how their clothing came out and the contrasts between the showffs and those who'd rather just sit on the sidelines; between Kaen and Rumal, especially. Both are absolutely 100% flaunting their wealth, but Kaen's SO much classier about it. The archers scrubbing themselves up under their royal new recruit's influence. Anganur, Ulkar and Kaen, my brick shithouses, toll-u and lanky Gylepi and Yoryl Noodlearm... I'm just so happy with all these boys.

Particular shoutouts to Cassie, who's been so long since she posted I completely forget her username on DW, for helping me so much with these boys. From help on how to specifically improve faces or poses, to redlining Kaen's face to make him less freshfaced 20-year-old and more maaaaan, to general 'y'know you can totally do feet better, stop cheating on them' pushes. She makes me so much better :<

This'd work better if they were in a scene but that'd mean drawing a scene annnnnd I can't be bothered. They're starting to look like a real species now, though, pleased about that! When I get all the character art done I'll be moving onto kingdom art, which will include wildlife, and I plan to do a full, detailed set on drawing them. How their heads work, feet, exactly where the angles on the back go. Like some of these guys are pretty flat-footed on the front feet while others are more up on their toes, be good to standardise that kind of thing. Working through them like this before doing that makaki design sheet works for me, tho, because this is how I've been figuring out how I want to draw them. Some of their necks are too short. Big beefy destrier chests are fun, too, especially compared with their boney little butts.

Lefties represent XD I've also added Nimay's and Nol's to this one, Nimay's entirely unchanged except to give it the curved blade, Nol the same plus I've given him a more detailed guard, which was the obvious place to put some royal swirlies.

Own pic starts with moody gits and then really lightens up.

Look at my Kurae's sword all on its lonesome lol. Against the fucking grain.

You can make makaki's a great species, but I'm still gonna draw them with massive trunkers.

I noticed this as I was drawing them, too XD Even going alphabetical and only sticking Rau at the start after the fact, because General, it still starts with Emon, Haenel and Kurae--the wet blanket, the combative newbie and the stone wall.

I love seeing all the swords lined up like that, even Kurae's sticking out like that XD I can't flip him, though, or it wouldn't be his sword anymore. Well, it'd be his sword, but not his scabbard.

You can do whatever the hell you want with them, they're a fantasy creature and I will delight in any and all interpretations of them X3
