15 in 15 #14 ~ Ulkar
Mar. 2nd, 2005 12:49 amSecond last one, Ulkar, character based on the song Bright Lights by Matchbox 20.

Name~ Ulkar
Age~ 33
Currently Appearing In~ Nothing concrete as yet, still just a member of the collective Own
Orientation~ Straight
Origin~ Ni-Thingy (no, I can't be stuffed making up a name for it; it's not important), halfway between Ni-Mytaa and Ni-Horia (map). Very bloody small, barely has 50 residents.
Significant Other(s)~ Wife
Background~ Brought up in a tiny town nobody's ever heard of, Ulkar's the son of the town's barman, who is naturally the most respected man in Ni-Thingy. Pubs are, of course, a necesity in even the tiniest of Raykinian towns, especially those between Ni-Yana and Kazin--anyone passing through, be they merchants or riders of the Own, is bound to stop for a break and a glass of beer, which is naturally how Ulkar became interested in joining their ranks.
When he left Ni-Thingy, the people were all sad to see him leave. While they all supported him and wished him well, they were all worried about him, his family most of all. He was, after all, just a 15-year-old from a country town heading for the big smoke. He knew nothing about city life and how people weren't as friendly as they are in tiny towns where everyone knows everyone else. Ni-Yana in particular is pretty dangerous.
All the same, he hitched a ride with the next merchant heading for the capital, and when he got there he successfully got a job at one of the many pubs, and began army training. Being the poor naive country boy he was, he got mugged a couple of times, but that only made him try harder in training. At the end of his training, he passed every weapon pretty well, but obviously excelled with the sword, which earned him a place with the Own four years later.
Employment~ First Company swordsman and rider for the King's Own
Appearance~ Ulkar's a shortarse, very brawny, thickset. If he lived in the here and now, he'd so be a rugby player; he's got the whole no-neck thing going. Boofy fringe like 'may's, hair down to his shoulder-blades that's usually loosely braided and tied back at the nape of his neck. Scars and stuff.
Distinguishing Characteristics~ His general physique's pretty distinctive, in a stocky, no-neck kinda way. Failing that, there's a nice ugly scar down his right arm from shoulder to elbow, and another on his left from elbow to wrist. Both came from one of the more recent missions to Kazin when the previous general, Rau, was killed.
Quirks~ He's got the country accent, which is kinda like a weak version of the desert accent. He's lost most of it having lived in Ni-Yana now for more than half his life, but it's still noticable, especially when he gets excited.
Sin-of-Anger~ Ulkar's definitely not an angry person.
Sin-of-Envy~ Not particularly envious, either. He's exactly where he wants to be, riding with the Own.
Sin-of-Pride~ Oh hell yeah. He's incredibly proud of his little no-name town, which is a source of warm amusement from the rest of the guys when they pass through on missions. He tends to act modest over his position with the Own, but it doesn't take much to pursuade him to show off his skills.
Sin-of-Gluttony~ He does eat quite a bit, yeah, but he works it all off in training anyway.
Sin-of-Lust~ Not a lot, no.
Sin-of-Avarice~ More stingey than greedy. His life in the tiny Ni-Thingy has meant it's been drummed into his skull to save everything in case a drought comes along, so he hates spending.
Sin-of-Sloth~ Nup
Virtues~ He's more aware of the dangers of city life now than he was when he first arrived, but he's still quite innocent in comparison to the other guys. He's just a lovely guy ^^
